Gray ring in the toilet bowl

Posted by yardsend @yardsend, 23 hours ago

Here's a weird question: has anyone else had a dark gray (not pink) ring form in their toilet bowl while taking antibiotics? I've been on the big 3 plus Aricayce for 4 months, tobramycin for 7 weeks. This ring becomes visible about 4 days after I clean the toilet (with N-95 mask on). Most of it wipes off easily, but there is a gray stain that I can't scrub off with Comet. Vinegar doesn't help either. Ideas?

Not on antibiotics and no gray ring around the toilet but I know a bit about cleaning. Have you tried CLR? Pour in a bunch and let it soak overnight. Scrub and then flush. If that does not work I might try Soft-scrub with bleach. https://www.amazon.com/CLR-Calcium-Remover-Enhanced-Formula/dp/B00009EFEX

Scoop,
I'll try your cleaning tips, thanks! And, no chemical odor. It's a peculiar mystery!

@yardsend Another consideration - your water supply may have changed a bit. Try putting some in a white bowl and letting it sit overnight - any hint of gray at the waterline or in the bottom of the bowl? We had a similar issue once when the city was flushing the water towers, lines and hydrants after an issue at the water treatment plant.
