Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@ginger, Volunteer Mentor, all this talk about a potluck on the other side of the country is making me dream about taking a trip out that way! Maybe next year!

@mamacita Oh, can you just picture the kind of crowd we would have at a potluck for Connect members!? It would certainly not be a quiet group, that I can bet! Of course, @jakedduck1 probably wants us to go ahead and start the list going around of who is bringing what. Then we'll all show up at his house right?

I'm so grateful for my cooking friend. Just had some spare ribs, mashed cheesy taters, lima beans & spinach salad. Sure beats my usual bowl of cereal or sandwich. Although today I had to fix my own taters but I'll probably survive. I had my friend get me some instant ones for emergencies like this. Now the question is will it be candy, pastry or cookies? Decisions decisions, candy sounds good but what kind? Miss the good ole days when I had it all. Had to throw out the Ice cream this morning. Got my mom some last night and forgot to put it away. Oh well, one less decision.
Think I'll have some white chocolate M & M’s.

@ginger, Volunteer Mentor, count me in! Maybe by the appointed time I will be over this virus that has assaulted my lungs! Thank God for antibiotics! Courage and strength, my friend.

Guess no one plans on eating unless it’s candy or you want to cook here.
Could go out I suppose.
I’d preferred candy myself.

That sounds like it’s going to be a big mess in my least favorite room of the house. Good idea, bad location. However, since Linda already has pot luck plans we can meet there.

@gingerw
Definitely a list, nothing allowed that I don't like.
A sample of the best candy from your respective area required (No dark chocolate.)
