My husband just got his biopsy results back. Grade 1 invasive ductal carcinoma. Any information would be helpful.

I had BC surgery yesterday. Prep time was more than surgery. Had Grade 1 stage 2 ( about 2.5 cm. ) growth on left breast. Doctors all wanted mastectomy but I was firm about lumpectomy ( which I got ) . Total surgery and recovery time was 3.5 hours. Got extra pain med. for chest which lasts about 24 hr. Was very thirsty and a bit dizzy yesterday. Slept well ( 7 hrs. ) and did morning chores today. Still a bit thirsty but no pain. Will see surgeon next week about radiation and chemo if necessary. Only 2 nodes were taken out so very little spreading and no drain to cope with, Have non-opiod pain med to use if needed ( 3 day supply ) Still a bit of brain fog. Glad to be over the mental fatigue of this. Good luck to all !

This information helps so much. I will make sure we have those things on hand.

Surgery has been postponed a few days due to more testing. The waiting is the hardest part….

How was your recovery post surgery? When could you resume normal activities like driving?

Thank you for sharing:)

I know waiting drove us crazy. It is the unknown that makes it so hard.

I was able to drive about 10 days after surgery. Some doctors tell you to wait until the drain is out. I also had a port placed at the same time as mastectomy. I was back to work in 2 weeks.

Hope this helps, any other questions feel free to ask. I know you said he plays golf that will probably be a while before he can get back to that. He will do great and so will you.

My wife bought a pillow system from amazon that helps for sleeping propped up almost like in a recliner or a recliner if you have one will help greatly as he will probably have to sleep on his back in an upright position. They also have some type of belt you can get to hold his drain especially when it is time for a shower. Zip up sweatshirts or button down shirts a must, will be hard to raise arm above head to put on pullover shirts. If I can think of anything else I will let you know but I think that's really about it for what made it more comfortable for me. Tell him good luck and keep positive.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, strength and hope. Best of luck with your chemotherapy and radiation. It sounds like you have a good treatment plan.

My husband is scheduled for a CT scan and an ultrasound of the lymph nodes tomorrow. Mastectomy and lymph
node biopsy will be done on Wednesday.

I want my husband to be as comfortable as possible post surgery. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you reaching out. It’s comforting to know we are not alone.

Hi and sorry to hear about your husbands news. I am a male and was diagnosed November 4 2022 with IDC grade 2 ER positive PR negative and HER2 Positive. My experience so far is waiting for results which is frustrating but they will come. I had a mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy on December 12th was scheduled earlier but I got covid right after diagnosis. Mastectomy was not bad, the worst part was under the armpit from the lymph node, not painful just annoying, I also had a drain in for 2 weeks that needed to emptied 3 times a day. I know this is a scary time for both of you, stay calm and strong and he will get thru it. As my wife told me its a small hiccup in a long life.

My first round of Chemo will be Wednesday 1/25/23 after six rounds it will then be 15 radiation treatments. Remember not all breast cancer needs Chemo or radiation. If your going to the Mayo I am sure the Oncologist will guide you through the process they have been great with me.
