Experienced any lower left side grabbing type pain w/diverticulitis?

Posted by debbyg @debbyg, Sep 8 10:22am

Has anyone experienced a grabbing, twisting type pain in their lower left side with diverticulitis? It is random. Seems positional but I can not duplicate it and it doesn't happen with exercise. I don't have typical diverticulitis symptoms. They have ruled out a hernia. It feels like something is twisting or caught. I have had a lot of abdominal surgeries. Anyone besides me have this issue?

@debbyg Thx. Odd that I would have a bad uti in between the 2 colon episodes. Going to the gastroenterologist next week.

Yes, I have had problems most of my life with diverticulitis. When it acts up, it’s a horrible stabbing pain in my lower left side. Whenever it happens, I just have to go on a liquid diet for several days. It’s terrible.

I also have diverticulitis, I was having bad pain on my lower left side for a few days and ended up going to the ER, they admitted me for four days and said my colon was full of poop. They thought they may have to do emergency surgery and may have to put in a colostomy bag but luckily they gave me all types of medication that started emptying my colon. I now have to drink two packets of MiraLAX a day plus was prescribed a stool softener. I also have had many surgeries on my stomach and have a lot of adhesions.

@dhorne1955, I can understand why @debbyg’s experience with a bladder infection caught your attention, especially since you had a bad UTI between your two colon episodes. It may or may not be related, but it sounds like an important part of the timeline to share with your gastroenterologist when you see them this week.

You’ve also mentioned continuing tenderness and pain on your left side and not knowing what to do next. It sounds like this appointment comes at a good time. Have you thought about what you most want to ask your gastroenterologist about the continuing pain and tenderness?

I had lower left pain on my side when I was going thru my diverticulitis issues and had surgery for an abscess and perforation. Had about 6 inches of my colon removed. I couldn't eat and lost 40 pounds. Had a temporary ostomy for 6 months and then a reconnection. I have been doing well since with some bowel issues depending on what I eat. But, I do pretty well if I listen to my body when it comes to diet.

@shellyv I have diverticulitis also. And have just recently gone on a soluble food eating plan. You have to eat foods that you can chew very well before swallowing and foods that almost met in your mouth. Like ritz crackers v/s corn chips. This way your food is partially digested before it reaches your stomach then colon. It is helping me feel so much better and lose weight. If you look up the diet you will find lots of food but just can’t ear raw veggies. That’s hard for me to stay away from salads. I also take linzess after I eat breakfast. That when it works. I hope this helps you. I can take pics of my soluble diet is you wish.

@hurtingonstatins read my comments in this blog about going on a soluable food plan. No seeds, skins, raw veffies, fried foods, oily foods , hard crunchy crackers etc. it is helping and I’m losing weight.
