Got the Confirmation Last Night
I went in for my first colonoscopy endoscopy on Thursday. Friday biopsy shows Esophageal Cancer. Wow. Never smoked, ever. Don’t drink alcohol. Never known to have acid reflux. I only drink sparkling water and kombucha that might have cause this. So sad. I have only seen two survivor stories. Curious. Don’t know what to ask yet.

Hi I also was diagnosed with EC and never smoked or drank. I ended up with chemo and radiation which removed the tumor and the EC. This was several years ago. I'm now 80. I could not swallow for a while and had feeding tube.
I'd be happy to answer any questions?

Well some good news there is a lot more than two survivor stories. And not just here but everywhere. Everyone looks to google and seems to believe what’s there to bad. So much misinformation. Believe in yourself and hopefully you can get a great medical team to help you through this difficult time. I believe you can get through any situation with a positive attitude and great support system. Wishing you the best!! Scott
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
My husband is 62 and was diagnosed with stage four esophageal cancer at the end of May. We’re preparing for cycle 2 of his treatment, holding on to faith and praying that God will bring healing to him and to you as well.
I am an Esophageal cancer survivor. Diagnosed in 2019. Went thru all the treatments etc, with no side effects to speak of except a bad burn on skin from radiation.
Mayo hospital / Rochester, MN for esophageal removal in April 2020. I was their guest there for 10 days. NPO (nothing per oral), feeding tube for a few months (hell of a diet plan). I really, honestly can't think back and complain about a thing. Passed the 5 year survivor marker!!!!!
Complications? Yes, ofcourse. It was major surgery. One of the surgical sites (right rib cage) still gets plenty sore from time to time, had to have diaphramic hernia repaired (Mayo again) as when they did the removal and stretched the stomach they needed to do a gastric pull thru. No big deal in the realm of it all.
Good luck, as with everything.......... think positive!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Cheers to you and here's to a long, healthy, happy rest of your days!!!
Hi from Tasmania, Sorry to hear about your diagnosis - you really don’t want to be a member of this club. I don’t think reflux or a history of smoking / drinking is always present with EC. Worth Googling “silent reflux” to see you had atypical reflux symptoms. There are lots of good survivors stories; often these people just get on with their lives and are not well represented in sites such as this. Wishing you all the best with the treatment ahead. Geoff
Thank you very much. I have my pet scan scheduled for next week.
Diagnosed 7/1/2021 with stage 2/3 ESCC and went to MDA in Houston for chemo and proton therapy treatments which successfully eradicated the tumor and cancer in involved lymph nodes. Furloughed 7 weeks to recover prior to return to Houston for surgery. Upon return PET scan revealed cancer returned in 2 new locations, changing my status to 4B metastatic and not eligible for surgery. Returned home for new round of chemo with immunotherapy (Opdivo). I also signed up for periodic Signatera blood biopsies. At the end of chemo treatment in 3/2022 no evidence of cancer and I stayed on Opdivo for about an additional 26 months. I have been in remission for 3 years 5 months (not that I'm counting). My Signatera score has been "0" since 3/22 which means there is no evidence of my tumor's DNA in my blood. In a few weeks I will be 75 and life is good though my doctors remain vigilant since my cancer is not considered curable. Good outcomes do happen.
