Goserelin (Zoladex) 10.8mg vs Leuprolide 22.5mg: The same?

Posted by samidh @samidh, Aug 22, 2023

Since October last year I have been on Goserelin 10.8 mg implanted sub-cutenously in my stomach every 3 months. Today, I was administered Leuprolide 22.5mg intramuscular in my buttock.
When I asked the doctor, he said they were the same thing. Any comments/thoughts are welcome please.

"There were no statistically significant differences in achieving castration levels and the duration to reach castration levels between leuprolide 22.5 mg and goserelin 10.8 mg. "

Did your oncologist say why you were given one medication the first visit and a different the second time? Did you notice any differences?

Apologies for the delayed response; I inadvertently overlooked your post. Regarding why the medication was changed, my Onco has no answer and it's just that the hospital where I receive free treatment exhausted its supply of Zoladex. (Please don't tell them that 🙂 )
Certainly, I have noticed some distinctions. With Leuprolide, I experience higher levels of fatigue, and there is a lingering "dry-mouth" sensation for a few weeks post-injection (I keep sucking on boiled sweets). However, these variances haven't been significant enough to cause concern or bother me significantly.
