Gonorrhea Treatment

I tested positive only for gonorrhea. My main symptom was painful urination. I was prescribed doxy and an IM shot of ceftriaxone. One doctor made a comment that I didn’t need to take the doxy because it was only prescribed in case I had both gonorrhea and chlamydia. Symptoms went away after the shot. Should I take the doxy prescription and when is it safe to resume sex?
