Posted by bvgrammy @bvgrammy, Nov 23, 2016

I have been taking Xanax for 25 years for Fibromyalgia and Anxiety. I am trying to wean myself off of it. Has anyone done this?

You’re a survivor for sure and strong because you went through hell. I agree with what you’re saying and I sincerely hope to do exactly what you’re saying, I have gotten down several times to 0.5 per day, I was so proud. I then went into the pandemic and tried to stay strong but six months later I got a lung cancer diagnosis and it knocked me for a loop. I’m a two time survivor and in remission for two years now so once again I’m challenging myself to stop being afraid all the time and fight back. I don’t know how long God will let me live but I don’t want to give up on myself and I definitely don’t want pity from the doctor because that will only weaken my resolve. I’m glad we had a chance to connect, it really means a lot to me, take care, Frouke.

If you can survive two bouts of cancer you can survive anything. You are a very strong person!!! You’re going to do just fine wherever life leads you.

Thank you so much for your kind words, I try very hard to be strong and fight back where I can but it’s a roller coaster ride at the best of times. No one said it was going to be easy but I’m grateful that I still have my life and the love ones in it, amen.

Benzodiazepines are highly addictive!!! Please have someone take you to an impatient detox center. Do not try getting off this by yourself! It would be life threatening with a risk of seizures!!!! PLEASE, for your life, get help then report these physicians for giving you benzos for 40 yrs. Their licenses should be revoked...permanently!!!!!!!!

@Flowergirl93, I can’t imagine the journey you’ve had with Xanax so far—it sounds incredibly exhausting, especially at this point in your life. You have so many wonderful things, like your kids and grandkids, that you would much rather be focusing your time and energy on. I also understand that you have several physical health diagnoses to manage.

Can you help me understand? Are you looking to get off Xanax completely or are you looking for a local physician who can prescribe it for you?

I was on 2 mg of Xanax for about 10 years (prescribed in Korea). When I returned to the States in 2015, I got wild reactions from doctors. So, I began decreasing Xanax gradually, and ended up on Buspirone (Buspar), 15 mg 3x/day. I also take Gabapentin to assist in quieting anxiety. This of course with lots of therapy, which you may not be able to have? I suggest you see a Psychiatrist again and try to find other anxiety drugs (non-benzo’s) that might help you taper off Xanax.

Saying a prayer for you in your situation. I know how alarming such a thing can be.

Thank you for sharing this. I’m going to start Buspar today 5 mg 2 x a day while tapering off Valium ..it’s gotten hard at a very los dose..nice to see Buspar helped you.

OhhhhhEEEEE 14 hour tour 1 way! Wow! Thats possibly your driving force pun intended, in wanting to quit! Hope you’re able to get where you want to be medication wise! PHD is not me from others with long term experience reducing can range from 3-12 months… that car ride sounds brutal & would make me want to breakup with Xanax! Ughh. Good Luck.

No it's called if I don't make that drive , slowly go into withdrawals within 3 days , sweating, extreme anxiety and then seizures which some could be fatal ,with drawing from xanex I hear is worse than any drug on the street, I didn't ask for this , just listening to what I was told to do , so no the drive is not worth stopping, my life is important to me plus I get to visit my grandchildren when I go 6 boys 1 girl when I get there , so no pun intended is unacceptable in my eyes , this is my life and I didn't ask for any of it nor was I aware of what was going on , to bust with life until I got older now about to turn 56 !!!!! It's all about living ....
