Glucose becoming more elevated

Posted by brotherchuckles80 @brotherchuckles80, Aug 4 8:35pm

Hi There!
I am 80 years old and have been a Type II diabetic for 37 years. My glucose had ben under control up until June of this year. It has begun rising. It is now in the 300-500 range. My diet remains at about 200 carbs per day, which I have been at for about the past 5 years. I am on a Trulicity 3mg/0.5ml pen, one time per week and I take 1000 mg of Metformin in the evening one time per day. I am not taking any known med that could raise my glucose level. Anyone else experience this. What was the cause and what did you do about it? Thank you brotherchuckles8- aka Charles

I’m type I, not type 2, but I do know that blood sugar can be raised due to many reasons. I’d let your doctor know about your numbers immediately, because numbers that high can be an emergency. I have heard leading endocrinologists speak about Type 2 before and say that it’s common to need more treatment over time, even if you are doing all the right things. It doesn’t mean anything, except you need more to help your body more. I hope you can get help for this quickly.

I also deal with type 1 in one of my kids. I agree with the previous poster. Please see an endocrinologist right away. You need additional treatment. These numbers can cause ketoacidosis which is dangerous.

@brotherchuckles80. with glucose readings of 300-500 range you sound like you have Ketoacidosis. with those high numbers you NEED TO GO TO THE ER IMMEDIATELY. LIKE RIGHT NOW. high numbers like yours and higher can and will cause kidney damage. and other organs. PLEASE TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUS. i am not foolin. i'll beg. GO NOW.
i have had it. and being a diabetic there is ALWAYS a chance this can happen again. @danny5

I am happy to tell you and others that my glucose readings were way off. The test strips that I was using were bad. I did a calibration on my meter which tested perfectly. I then opened a new canister of test strips. Walla! A reading of 188. That is high at this time but I know that it will go down. Also deb1997, do you really only take in 50 carbs per day? I am on a strict diet of 45 carbs per meal (3 meal per day) and 18 carb snacks (four times per day. In the past five years I have lost 100+ pounds and maintained my weight of 175 over that same time period. But 50 carbs per day? God bless you. Charles aka brotherchuckles80.
