GLP1 to combat weight gain and A1C increase while on ADT?
I've completed my 28 radiation treatments and am 9 months into to an 18 month ADT regiment. ADT is the tough part - radiation was easy. On Lupron, I've gain 13 lbs. I want to eat everything in sight, and my A1C jumped from 5.9 to 6.3. My primary doctor suggested adding another diabetic med to the Metformin I'm already taking.
The A1C increase is a direct result of the ADT and weight gain. Seems like using a GLP1 would actually address the root cause - whereas another diabetic med is simply treating the symptom. From what I've researched, the only "negative" would be muscle loss and I would really need to dedicate time for resistance training - i.e. weights, resistance bands, etc. I already play in a Senior Softball league 2-3 times a week; and this weight gain is also impacting my ability to play.
Anyone have experience or thoughts on using a GLP1 while going through ADT?
Thanks.

@jime51 With an A1c increase of 0.4 with 25 lbs weight gain you have lots of capacity to stay off diabetic medication if you keep the weight off. If diet does not work the GLP-1s will. Jeff is right about the difficulty of losing weight on ADT but the GLP-1s will cause weight loss even with ADT.

You don’t need to go vegan. I eat 3 different cereals in the morning. Something that looks like Wheaties, but has no sugar and high protein, Something that looks like cocoa puffs that has no sugar and high protein, And I eat a shotglasss cup full of bran bits (Recommended at PCRI). I eat that with soy milk and it really taste good.
Every other day, I make a huge salad with kale and Romain, Green onion, Artichoke hearts, Tomatoes and Anchovies. On opposite days, I may not eat lunch or have sardines, tuna or peanut butter and jam.. All depends on my weight.
I have a snack every day with a whole bunch of pistachios, Almonds are good too.
For dinner, I have chicken or fish with brown rice and a vegetable.
After dinner in the evening, I have a bowl of strawberries and a small piece of cake or a couple of cookies.
I get on the scale every day and base what I eat on what I weigh. It has worked for eight years on ADT. If I gain a little weight, then I have the evening cake or cookies every other day.
I am 6’4” 190lbs so maybe I need a little bit of extra food.
I don’t have to eat vegan, I can lose weight when I need to. My last two A1c were 5.4. I get them every three months.

1 Reaction@jeffmarc you’ve found something that works for you and you’re doing great with it. Several sources, including PCRI, indicate vegan is the gold standard for slowing or preventing prostate cancer growth, but most agree that adopting a more mainstream heart-healthy diet is more achievable. Thank you for sharing your details.
@jim18 Thank you! Once on GLP-1s, there’s no going back unless you’re developing a healthy diet overall. I’ve got to try manually first.
