Getting in the door at Mayo - located 1,300 miles away
Does the group have tips about getting my PCa diagnosis (June, 2026 MRI, biopsy ARTERA and PET scan already done) reviewed at Mayo Clinic when a resident of a state 1,300 miles away? At present I am set up for a 15 minute "getting to know you" visit with an Urology PA next week. It has to be in person, so I have booked a flight and overnight accommodations. It can't be done via video. If I pass the audition I get paired up with a treatment team and take another flight to Rochester, MN. I'm OK with that procedure but wondered if I could be doing anything different to get paired up with a treatment team without two trips. Others may have walked this path before me! Thanks, Steve

Dear Steve,
My husband was able to become a patient at Mayo through a referral from his primary care physician. We live in Colorado, and he did need to travel to both MN and then AZ (we switched to AZ campus for many reasons) to be seen in person to establish the relationship. It is worth it.
Best,
Laura
I am so happy this worked out for you. I am a Gleason 6 on A/S at the Mayo in Phoenix. I was going to advise you to do whatever it takes to stay with the Mayo Clinic. They have some of the best doctors, equipment, training and research out there. There will be teams of medical staff that contact and deal with you. They are very, very organized. PSA blood draws have the test results available in about one hour so they schedule your draw and appointment that close to each other. I will say a prayer that all goes well for you.
