Get a Prostatic Artery Embolization (PAE) after Eligard injection?
Have prostate cancer with bone metastasis. Had a tumer removed from spinal cord and 10 rounds of targeted radiation. Last week had eligard injection and xgeva for bone loss. Started nubeqa two days ago . At first diagnosis PSA was 3300 last it was 1200. Have a catheter and to remove they want me to do PAE procedure saying it will shrink prostate faster. Haven’t had a PSA test after getting the injections. I’m just wondering it will help or is it not worth it

It can relieve your urinary symptoms. They could also do a TURP, which is like a Roto-Rooter of your prostate. You don’t mention how large your prostate is, but if it’s too big, they don’t like to do radiation on it, Not sure if those 10 sessions you had were on the prostate or other metastasis.
Your biggest issue is will you be able to pee properly if they pull out the catheter, Sounds like they put it in because you had problems, so this procedure is the simplest one you can do to try to resolve the problem.
The PSA test is not a factor. You’re on Eligard, which will reduce your testosterone to very low levels so anything you do to the prostate is not going to really affect it since it produces testosterone.
Radiation was for spine. I had a tumor wrapped around my spinal cord, I was pretty much paralyzed so that’s the reason why my Psa was that high . Had surgery to get tumor off cord and yes I can stand and walk thank You Lord.. my concern is since If had the eligard for a week already and by the time it takes the PAE procedure to work is it something that not really needed.I have a hernia left side and wounded about complications
I also had a tumor wrapped around my L4 and my spinal cord. Three sessions of SBRT radiation seem to have removed it.
I found this from John Hopkins, and it makes me think that you should not worry about this procedure.

@wideurt, did you have the PAE? How are you doing?
Didn’t have the PAE just had the catheter pulled and they gave one time use catheter to self catheter and I’ve only had to use one. So far so good ,it’s been four days. I start chemo the 13 th so trying to make sure bodily functions are working pretty good. I’ve got a lot of cancer on bones but not in organs . The tumor that was wrapped around my spinal cord is gone . Just had an MRI today .
