Gene Mutation Issues Anyone?

Posted by covidstinks2023 @covidstinks2023, Nov 23, 2023

I was just diagnosed with Gene Mutation issues. I am going to an Integrative Medicine doctor to treat Long Covid. I had Covid last August and then I just had it again in October of this year. I was always my mom's sickly child. It appears that I inherited a gene from birth from each parent that does not allow my body to detox nor do I absorb folates. This will be a tremendous blessing to my overall health to get this healed. This would explain why the B12 injections aren't working, vitamins aren't working and why I get so many upper respiratory infections that linger. This may also fall into the category of histamine issues and mast cell issues. Folks, be your on advocate when you can't get answers. I would love to hear from any of you that have gene mutation issues. Stay tuned as I get treated and learn more....God Bless You All.

did gene test this year as have always had ADRs to most meds; after 2nd ER drug 'run'. did GeneSight - tests for pysch drugs, but has revealed numerous variants that i check each drug against - and found many to beware. there are others who test for everything - drugs, genetic disease, cancers (23&Me does provide info for the breast cancer gene, plus highlights potential issues like diabetes, BP, etc). some tests need doctor to order and interpret, but i do my own research after the fact. as single senior with entire lifetime of issues, (now we know most of the whys) this testing has been a literal lifesaver for me; am from a medical family, so no stranger to terms & understanding. as disillusioned as i am with the "business" of medicine, (and since i come from the first half of the last century - think original Star Trek), this gene technology has my interest, and provides a way forward. you can do credible research yourself, then have PCP take it from there. If they are not interested, find someone who is. my goal is to get as many negatives as possible - missing a positive is not an option; does require time and determination, but we are worth it.

I have the same issue as you. I had told my doctors for years about all my ADRs to a variety of meds and how pain meds not only caused ADRs for me, but they didn't help my pain one bit. Most doctors just blew off what I was saying and kept prescribing the same meds. When I did some genetic testing and the list of key enzymes needed to metabolize most drugs came back and most of mine were abnormal, especially the ones that were flagged as "poor metabolizer," I felt so validated. Poor metabolizer means drugs linger in your system and become toxic in addition to being ineffective. Suddenly, it all made sense. Unfortunately, not all doctors buy into pharmacogenetics even though I have a list of major ADRs with so many meds. I try to look at the metabolic pathway for each new drug prescribed and go from there. I'm not sure how much it has helped me. I mostly just avoid new meds out of fear. The day the pharmacies and/or doctors can load our genetic information into their database and use AI to flag drug issues and dosage adjustments, that will be great.

By the way, I was also the child with all the health issues in my family. However, my two very healthy brothers both died young from their cancers and I'm still here. They both had cancers that are typically diagnosed too late, but I also feel like having so many health issues had me going to doctors and having scans often enough to catch my cancers earlier. My aunt was the sickly one of four siblings and she is also the soul survivor in her birth family. So there's the silver lining to having an array of health issues, at least for me and my aunt. My best to you as well.

Which testing did you do? My testing was done through color.com as an add on with genetic cancer testing.

Zebra, God Bless You. I am so sorry that this happened to you too. I'm not sure which exact testings the Integrative Medicine Doctor did, but, he was suspicious that I had gene mutation issues after contuing to being so sensitive to meds and reacting to the 2nd infusion which had Glutathione (Sp?) in it. He told me to come off all of my vitamins because i wasn't absorbing them and to let's start out clean. I find out next week the treatment plan. He also wants all allergy testing done on me (I have horrible allergies, chronic upper respiratory infections, etc.,) ..... I'm so sorry about your brothers....but I Praise the Lord yours was found early enough to treat. Praying for all that replied here. Blessings and hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Good luck with your allergy testing. I’m allergic to planet Earth it seems, but can’t tolerate allergy meds. I’m allergic to animals, plants, foods, meds, etc. I’m glad you have a doctor trying to solve your puzzle.

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Hope you did too! Blessings to you as well. Please provide updates as your doctor unravels the mystery. 🙏🏻❤️

I knew I had a twin somewhere!! We sound identical in our issues. I think you & I should be the "side effect" to medications in the Physicians Desk Reference. I'll keep you posted as I unravel all of this "stuff". Blessings & Prayers my friend.
