Posted by bellbelinda3 @bellbelinda3, Jan 30, 2012

I was recently diagnosed with Gastroparesis. Can anyone enlighten me about diet?

I’m on a very soft food diet w some success. Eating alot of soup yogurt grits fish etc. Eating smaller meals more frequently. No pop or carbonated beverages and I try to stay caffeine free! I also new at this and keeping a food journal has helped. Good luck to u! It’s not easy but is better then many alternatives .

I just got diagnosed with this as well. Actually just returned home from the Mayo Clinic today. Before I left for my flight today I had an appointment with the Dietician at the Mayo Clinic. I felt it was very informative. She gave me a lot of references and a few web pages. One even has a lot of daily food examples and recipes. I am not sure exactly what you would want but I would be happy to share. Thanks

I have recently been diagnosed with Gastroparesis and am struggling with foods to eat. I am doing smaller meals and have gone gluten free due to a gluten sensitivity found during some testing. I am having problems with constipation without the high fiber foods. Did the dietician suggest low fiber? Thanks.

Thanks Kristine. I am taking Metamucil 1x per day but saw that that can contribute to the development of bezoars?

Try Align, a Probiotic. You can get it t Sam’s or Cosco. Stay away from popcorn, nuts, anything with seeds, and make it about texture of food, not spice. Low fiber, six small a day. I hope this helps.

I was told to not eat any fruits, vegetables,(unless they are baby food) nuts & high fiber foods. These are hard to digest. I just recently had a gastric pacemaker implanted & it has helped my stomach to work.

In addition to diet, it is important to keep your stress level low.

HlCan you tell me how you handle gastroparesis through diet? Do you concentrate on liquid diets? Anything else? Have you tried CBD oil?
Thanks. Danyl

Great question Danyl,

I would like to invite @jlfisher56, @robatk17, @katmandoo, to this discussion as they have mentioned gastroparesis on Connect and may have some ideas about diets and foods that help. I would like to also invite some members from the past back to give an update with their gastroparesis. I hope @sherry8034 and @faycarole will join us in this discussion on gastroparesis.

@danybegood1, how are your currently doing with your diet? Does anything in particular seem to make your symptoms worse? Was a new diet suggested or is it something you want to try and are curious about?

I don’t eat any fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, nuts, high fiber also the only meats I eat are fish chicken and hamburger. Also you should eat small amounts several times a day. I drink Ensure and I just started something called Juice Plus. You can get all your vegetables and fruits in either capsule form or gummies. I chose gummies because the capsules might be hard to digest. I have had a gastric pacemaker since 2012 and it has helped so much! Hope this info helps. Kathy

@@katmandu, @justinmclanahan, thanks for the quick response. Yep, i know about the frequent small meals im supposed to eat, but i haven’t figured out how that’s supposed to fit in with weight loss. I need to lose about 50 # to be healthy. But i have hypothyroidism too. What happens is i sometimes forget to eat because im not really hungry during the day. But when dinner comes along im ravenous and eat too much. Last night i made a pig of myself and i felt like i had eaten two basketballs. lol. I have no energy, 0. Im majorly depressed, but i try to stay in contact with people. It helps my mood. Im thinking about using protein pwder in some kind of liquid. @katmandu, how is the Ensure? I heaved at the taste of Glucerna. Am also wondering about baby food. Ive got to lose wt. I would like to be thinner one more time before i die. Btw, my heart is fine but i still feel like death is near.
