Gastro Issues

Posted by blair91 @blair91, Apr 24, 2022

Hi everyone! My name is Blair I am 30 years old and a male. Up until July of 2021 I was a healthy and active guy. Last July, I woke up with excruciating upper abdomen/chest pain. I have never experienced anything like it in my life, I thought for sure I was having a heart attack. I went to the ER they told me I had a infection and told me to take Tylenol and watch my fever. No tests, nothing at all. I went home, 3 days later I had another “attack” this one was worse. I couldn’t stand up, felt like I was going to pass out from the pain, rapid heart beat, sweating, nausea, shortness of breath, tingling sensation all through my body. Once again, went to the ER where they did some blood work and sent me back home with nothing. This cycle kept happening and then I had an appointment with a gastrointestinal surgeon - turns out my gallbladder was only operating at 33%. In September of 2021 I had my gallbladder removed. I was expected to finally be able to enjoy life again. I was wrong, 2 days after being discharged I had another attack. My PCP, local specialists are all lost on what could be causing this. It is now April of 2022 I have lost close to 100 pounds simply due to the fact that my diet consists of noodles, bread, and soup. I cannot eat anything else without paying for it later with a debilitating attack. If anyone has any idea of what can possibly be causing this please let me know. I am 6’4 and I weigh about 230. Was in sports all my life, I’m just at a loss and I am getting very impatient. Thank you!

Sounds like you’re in the same boat as me…only I don’t have bleeding. You should most definitely see a Dr., (GI)… or whatever…I’ve had NO luck with GI’s in my past….but you should definitely have someone address your problem
P.S.
Your ER sounds like mine too! I CAN NOT believe they sent you home with Tylenol for an infection!!
Good luck

Also, @blair91, there’s some tea called “Smooth Move”, sometimes it works well…there’s always Magnesium Citrate or castor oil, mineral oil…prune juice. Good luck

Hi Blair, I’ve been on here for a very long time with colon issues. I was suppose to have my colon removed last September and I refused. I’m still searching for answers. I had acdf 3 fusion surgery June 2020 and my bowels shut down completely. I’ve seen some of the best docs in Boston. I won’t remove my colon so I have had to learn how to be sure I don’t get impacted. I’ve tried everything OTC and everything prescription and none of the things that work for most did anything for me. Nbpure makes mago7 cleanse. It is oxygen based magnesium with potassium. It was recommended by my naturopathic. So, I take 4 nightly, drink lots of water and if I haven’t passed diarrhea because I never have formed on day 4 or 5 it’s 3 capfuls Philips milk of mag which makes me sick but I need to get it out somehow. I also do distilled warm water enemas frequently. I only use 3 to 4 cups of water and the tubes I buy for my rectum are thinner than a straw so very comfortable. I’m seeing a third Gastro, just had endoscopy last week. I’m doing the Smart Pill test next Tuesday. I think if you haven’t had one you may need a colonoscopy which is nothing to see where bleeding coming from. Could be as simple as hemorrhoids. You need further testing. A lot of the time they remove your gallbladder but leave duct. I had mine out 15+ years ago. That duct was just an issue for me. Our gallbladder was our storage tank for bile and we removed it so the bile has to find a duct to hang out in. My one duct was stretched to the max so I will be watched every 6 months. I think get away from Gastro surgeon cause they are surgeons and find a good Gastro. I don’t know if where you live that’s difficult. Miralax did nothing for me as did many OTC drugs. I would suggest staying away from stimulants because they cause your colon to contract and it can be painful for some folks. Best of luck.

I have the opposite problem. I have had diarrhea for 2 years. My current primary care doctor gave me micronidasole to kill the bacteria in my small intestine. That helped for a short time, but now I’m back to diarrhea several times a day. Next week I’m scheduled for a colonoscopy and an upper endoscopy. My IgA is 694, ESR is 65 and CRP is 1.9. I have diffuse connective tissue disease, psoriatic arthritis, Raynaud’s, Sjogren’s, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and numerous other chronic problems. I have gall stones and constant pain in my gallbladder and I have a constant stomach ache. I’m hoping next weeks appointment will answer some questions.

@amandaburnett they have told me I am impacted, but they act like it’s not going to harm me in the long run. I am in such pain and discomfort. Just an overall sick feeling. When I take a stool softener or laxative, it makes me feel horrible.

Hello @blair91

It's been a while since you posted about your digestive tract problems. How are you doing? Have you found any help in addressing this issue?

REPLY

Gee, I had the same exact symptoms and it turned out to be chronic gastritis from h pylori. You can have more than one issue at a time. I had a endoscopy with biopsy which is how they discovered it. I also have elevated lipase and they have no idea why that is elevated, since the mrcp showed no masses or inflammation in my pancreas.

please make sure they eliminate the possibility of EPI… same symptoms but totally different meds
