Gabapentin dosing

Posted by cecelia19 @cecelia19, Sep 24, 2024

I’ve been taking my Gabapentin 200mg am then when the pain comes back I take another 100 mg and so on. At night before bed I’ll take 200 mg. Never more than 800mg total a day. I don’t seem to have good pain control throughout the day as it keeps rearing its ugly head throughout then I have to tamp it down with another 100 mg. I was given this instruction as needed.
Can you share the dosages you take and how you dose it and does it seem control the pain continuously all day or do you continually have to chase the pain like I do?

I am 59 and have been using Gabapentin for almost 5 years as a pain management medication.
I had good success at first with just 800mg at night before bed, so I would be able to fall asleep without horrible pains throughout my body. However, higher doses are needed, and I don't know why?

Should I be concerned about the tingling sensation in my hands as a result of high doses of gabapentin?

This is interesting. I'm under the impression that once you calibrate up with Gapapentin that you stay there. In other words you don't take extra doses "as needed".

GabaPentin is supposed to mitigate those feelings not cause them. Maybe back off some.

My neuros have told me I can take my 300mg either 2-3 times a day depending on how I feel in the afternoon. We’ve tried to wean off but it didn’t work as I’ve taken it 9 years for seizures, multiple headache types and neuropathy pain. As long as your doctor says you can adjust it it’s ok. You just can’t jump off immediately as it’ll cause symptoms. It’s not addictive and can work with a other meds so that’s why it’s readily prescribed

My neurologist has also told me I can adjust my dosage if needed. I try not to do it but occasionally I'll need to up my dosage in the afternoon.

I take 600 mg of Gabapentin at 7:00 ish. Nothing in daytime, I seem to cope well enough with the burning pain keeping busy. Walking 2 1/2 - 3+ miles in the morning also helps. To sleep I take 5 mg of melatonin and 1/2 of a cbd sleep gummy about 8:30 - 9:00. I hope this helps.
