Can gabapentin cause muscle pain and cramps in arms & legs?

Posted by sadeyes @sadeyes, Jan 28, 2020

Has anyone ever had the experience of Gabapentin causing severe muscle cramps in arms and legs and muscular pain and feeling of weakness? I know it is supposed to basically do the opposite and help with muscular problems......but this has happened twice to me as soon as I started the gaba and it was very severe,

Don't you mean Galiorant for animals? Never heard of gabapentin for animals. May I ask how many milligrams you take? Have the doctors figured out the root cause of the nerve pain? Acupuncture might work better.

Gabapentin has been used for pain in animals, mainly cats and dogs, by veterinarians for many years. I was surprised to have it prescribed for me.
Because of the horrible side effects I quit taking gabapentin. No one has
been able to ascertain the root cause. I am learning how to live with the pain.
Thanks for your post,

I did quite alot of research about gabapentin. Most of the data seemed to have been written by
pharmaceutical companies. Then I found an article from an issue of AAFP (American
Academy of Family Physicians) Finally! Some real data! It's very informative - and
sometimes frightening. They don't pull any punches. I highly recommend this article to
anyone suffering from the side effects and inefficacy of this drug. I gave the article to my GP.
Here's the website:

Good luck to everyone.

According to an NIH study pregabalin is also linked in some way to dementia. The paper listed us from 2023.

Could you please give me the name of the article. I clicked the link but it just gives general website. I’ve been on this drug for over 20 years. Ridiculous because the docs just use off label vs opioids 😢

Hi Summer,
I hope I've done this right! I uploaded a pdf copy of the AAFP's issue about
gabapentin below. If you can't see it I'll try again. It's a very eye-opening
article for people who have been given gabapentin for years. Every GP should see it - especially the "clinical trial" information.
Hope this helps,
McDen

Thank you so much. Wow… I always said to many folks or I suspected was true. I’m definitely going to talk to my doctor and taper off. My mother and I nicknamed it Morontin because we used to forget words at high doses. One doctor had me on 3600 mg a day, kept telling him I couldn’t keep my eyes open. He didn’t listen. my family thought I was using some street drugs or ?! Appreciate your response! .

Hi Summer,
3600mg a DAY! Your doctor might get some insight from the gabapentin article too.
I totally sympathize with you. My side effects were horrendous - some of which still haven't
left my body after months off this awful drug. How can Big Pharm call a drug safe when the
"clinical trials" were based on sometimes only two people? I hope you will feel much better
very soon - and your family and doctor will appreciate the fact you were in real distress.

My cat was prescribed Gabapentin as well. Needless to say it was very hard to give, so I stopped
