Gabapentin and Cymbalta

Posted by jeanniem @jeanniem, Mar 15, 2021

I am taking 300mg of Gabapentin twice a day and my neurologist seems to feel pretty strongly that I add 30mg of Cymbalta. Does anyone else take this combo? I really hate adding new medications!

Gabapentin 300mg 3Xday and Cymbalta 60mg daily is my combo of choice. I feel it has made a significant improvement in my level of pain. I have been taking it for 5 years and will probably take it for life (or so my pain Dr says.) No major side effects.
It did take several months to reach the desired relief of pain.
I still have flares of pains but know Gabapentin dose can be increased. I also rely on epidural injections, Tylenol, and Tramadol if a flare, Meds hot/cold packs and Lidocaine patches also help.
Good luck!

@kaka50 Thank you so much for your encouraging words! I’m encouraged to hear that . I have a smart and well researched FNP who has always given me great medical care. Monday I check in with her again to state no side effects from the duloxetine at 30mg starting dose. I should be good to go with increasing it to the 60mg maintenance dose from here on.
At 30mg for 3 weeks I’ve noticed less pain for half the day so far .

I was taking 1200mg of Gabapentin 3 times per day (the maximum dose) and I continued to experience debilitating pain in my feet. My PCP added 60mg of Duloxetine (Cymbalta) and, like magic, I was able to walk again. In fact, I was able to reduce the Gabapentin to 900mg 3 times per day. The Duloxetine was an absolute fantastic medication for me. It is still working extremely well for me three years later!
