GABA for anxiety and blood pressure reduction
I'm looking at Gaba for help with restless sleep, anxiety, and possibly blood pressure reduction - I've read that Gaba can lower blood pressure but from what I see it's maybe only a 10% or less reduction - my BP is marginally high, even on BP meds, so I'd be OK with a further 10% lowering. The BP meds I'm currently taking are LISINOPRIL 40MG, Propranolol 40mg (x2), and Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg - I'd be delighted to get rid of the diuretic! Any issues with Gaba and the BP meds I'm currently taking? Thanks !

I've been taking Lisinopril for my borderline high blood pressure for close to 20 years with great results. My BP is always excellent on every doctor's visit.
I am very careful with supplements. I do research before I add any. Gaba in my case may interact with my prescription for seizure control as gaba can alter the neurotransmitters in the brain. I take lisinopril for BP. I also take escitalopram 10mg daily. Please be careful.
Talking with my Doctor today - I'm not scared of much at all, EXCEPT having a stroke, which can be brought on by high BP - so I am very focused on keeping my BP under control. I've tried several of the home BP machines, and all turned out to be unreliable - high readings at home, and when I go to the doctor, the BP is OK. I'd rather take extra BP meds or supplements rather than having a stroke. I'm 75, could lose a few pounds, but otherwise OK.
Talk to your pharmacist (not just doctor) about drug interactions. But if your home BP results are not matching the doctor's, bring your home cuff in and get help learning to use it correctly - or why the results are different. If it turns out you don't actually have such high BP you might be able to get off some of the meds!
I have high blood pressure. I 'm 78 and take Metoprolol, Clonidine, Lisinopril and Amlodipine for it and have for years. My blood pressure is always good with that combination. However, out of those what really worked the best in lowering my blood pressure is the Amlodipine. It's interesting that your blood pressure is good at the doctor's but not at home. It's usually the other way around. Perhaps Nevarco is correct. Maybe it is that your home blood pressure machine is not working properly. I took mine into the doctor's office to have it checked. Also drinking a lot of water before you take your blood pressure helps bring it down to normal.
I wish you the best.

I used to take Amlodipine but I experienced some significant swelling around my ankles - a known potential side effect - my doctor switched me off the Amlodipine and suggested Propranolol and later a diuretic - my BP is still a bit higher than I'd like, so I'm doing regular BP checks for a few weeks to get a realistic view and then the doctor and I will revisit the options - she's aware of my concerns about high BP and a potential stroke.
I use a weekly Clonidine patch, 30 mg Lisinopril daily, 10 mg Amlodipine daily, 120 mg Propranolol twice a day, and 25mg Spirolactone-Hydrochlortizide twice a day for my extremely high BP and also take 300 mg Gabapentin three times a day and have not seen any issues with interactions between any of the medications. I’ve seen many BP finally come down after 20 years from averaging 189/178 to now at 117/78. Dr is concerned it’s getting too low so we are going to start tapering them off one at a time to determine what meds I need for daily maintenance. Good luck if the GABA works. It’s not a medication that works well with everyone’s immune system.
I've been going to the Doctor's office a few times a week at different times for blood pressure checks - my in-home BP machines have been very unreliable. I have an appointment in a week or two to review the results and make BP medication adjustments if necessary. I forgot to mention that I've also been taking a 125 mg ashwagandha capsule each morning (root and leaf extract) which is supposed to help with anxiety and BP. I also started taking 1 375 mg capsule of GABA as a supplement (NOT Gabepentin) in the mornings which is supposed to help with anxiety and sleep problems, and 10 mg liquid (1 mL ?) of melatonin (liquid) before bedtime - sleep seems better rand anxiety seems more manageable - BP is still erratic.
