Frustrated with this site: ideas for functionality improvement

Posted by vlny2018 @vlny2018, May 27 10:10am

I have typed my questions twice now and before I can finish my screen clears because of some random key and the whole thing disappears and sends me back to begin all over. Is there a place to ho to that has saved it on this site?

@vlny2018, I'm sorry to hear that you've lost your messages twice after carefully typing out your thoughts and questions. Currently there isn't a save draft option, although our team has that function in the development queue. We continually upgrade the site.

Until then, I have this suggestion. You could use a different program like Word or Notes to compose and save your message, and then paste it in the message box.

Thank you, I was thinking just that.

I've also experienced some inconveniences I hope developers will consider addressing:

1) Messages that fail to publish when I hit the post/submit button: It is usually related to either the post being too long, or to me being logged in simultaneously from two different computers. I've also resorted to composing longer messages in a separate editor.

2) Spellcheck recommendations highlighting words that should be part of a standard medical dictionary

3) No navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen. When I reach the bottom of a really long page, I'd rather not have to scroll all the way back to the top to click the main navigation buttons (Alerts, Mail/PM, Profile, Home, Support Groups, etc..., and the link back to the home thread page for the group currently being read; e.g., Pancreatic Cancer). It would save a lot of time if these buttons were duplicated at the bottom of a page.

4) I would love to see the search capability enhanced/refined to allow searching by multiple criteria (e.g. author(s), date range, keyword(s) in title and/or text.

5) I would love to see a "sticky" thread with the most Frequently Asked and Answered Questions, ideally with some hierarchical content map categorized by topic (e.g., Enzymes, Imaging, CA19-9, Diagnosis clarifications, Questions to ask my oncologist/surgeon, etc).

6) I would love to see support for italic and bold text, but fully understand their potential for abuse, and don't bemoan their absence (much).

The most important aspects of this forum (openness, anonymity, moderation, follow-up, removal of spam and inappropriate content) remain incredibly well managed, and for that I am extremely grateful!!!

Hope a developer will be able to implement your suggestions. This forum has given me a lot of good information and hopefully can be made as useful as possible.

A common occurrence, across most forums of this sort.

Many years ago I learned to draft comments in email (which saves automatically) then paste them into a forum such as this.
