Frustrated & Done

Posted by lauraleaisme @lauraleaisme, Aug 10, 2018

I have had chronic pain in my neck and back for 3 1/2 years. I have been to 14 different doctors, providers, and therapy. Currently I go to occupational therapy for myofascial release and physical therapy for central sensitivity. The occupational therapy helps some. But I am questioning the physical therapy for almost 4 months I am no better off than when I started. I have pain when I sit, when I stand, and when I walk. I rotate my position every 30 minutes so I don’t get more pain. I am at the point where enough is enough. With no answers and continued pain. I had been prescribed opioid pain meds and have been taking them for three years. I did not want to get addicted or overdose so I wean myself off of them. It was hard and lots of with drawl but I am currently on no pain meds. I had been taking 12 different medicines every day. The pain meds made it worse. I am not sure where to go from here but I’m struggling with driving to appointments and the gas in my car since I’ve had no income for three and half years. I also have fiber myalgia, IBS, headaches, short term memory problems that have been documented, Arthritis, hip pain, depression, and anxiety. I have gained a lot of weight due to not working or moving over the past 3 1/2 years. Any thoughts, recommendations, or support would be welcome.

My story is almost exactly like yours. I have the same neck and back issues. Doing two therapies, nothing is working. I went to have extensive blood work done to see where all of the inflammation was coming from and now they think it’s Lupus. I’ll know for sure next week. If I do, that will be 6 Autoimmune diseases. I started with MS 18 years ago. Have you been tested for Lupus?

Yes. I have seen rheumatologist and have extremely high ANA but al other blood work comes out ok. I see this doctor next month and if all tests come back normal she said I don’t have to come back. Lupus came back negative as all the other testing. I have a lot of inflammation also just no answers.

Thanks for your suggestions. I use all the things you do and get short term results. I ice several times a day, moist heat and baths, and stretching, and changing positions. Doctors say sorry I don’t know what is wrong, can’t help you. I had an OT tell me she could no longer treat me because she was not comfortable due to nerve issues in my neck and at the same time others say there is nothing wrong, or it shouldn’t hurt that much. Very frustrating.

@lauraleaisme Im sorry Dr,s cant give you any answers I was reading an interesting article on WebMD that talked about the Epstein -Barr. Virus In my 20,s I developed a bad case on Mononucleosis caused by this virus I had the rash with it ,extreme fatigue white spots in mouth, throat ,fever ,these where symptoms Dr did blood work and my count was 1600 she put me on bedrest for a month hugh doses of Vitamins which I still take a vit-min every day but often have wondered if this virus which lies dorment in our bodies , is the cause of so many of our problems today According to WebMD which I research on alot EBV is a herpes virus the one that causes coldsores ,shingles ? Just throwing this out there You can have them do a blood test for this .Ginger-turmeric tea is wonderful for inflammation .As a retired nurse I like to help people ,not physically now as Im 75 but with research or knowledge I have.

It is so good you got yourself off the meds. Have you tried a pain rehabilitation program? A friend of mine went through Mayo's three-week program and increased his quality of life quite a bit, enabling him to even travel etc. It is worth trying this if your insurance covers it. Mayo has a 2-day program also (though if it was possible, I'd sure prefer the 3-week one).

Thanks. I am currently in PT. It has been 4 months and I am no better. They are working under the concept of central sensitivity. I am ready to stop going. Mayo has a video about central sensitivity but do not know any more about it. I live in Ohio and do not have money for overnight accomidations. Not sure where to turn or to just take a break from every treatment.
