Frax score from DEXA vs. Online Frax Calculator - difference?

Posted by loplady @loplady, Mar 2 9:19am

Has anyone calculated their Frax using the online calculator using Fraxplus and gotten very different results? I entered all my information in exactly as what is on my Dexa and got a score of 7.3% for Major Osteoporotic Fracture when my Dexa shows 15.5%. Both are adjusted for TBS. For hip, I got 0.6% vs. 2.6% from my Dexa. I also used the Canadian one to compare and it is very close to the Fraxplus online calculator. Just did this today so no, have not asked my endocrinologist.

I had different results but that was because for the DEXA my broken bones from years ago were included but I did not include them on-line. I decided that a broken finger from touch football (failed to jump high enough to catch the ball) and a broken ankle from slipping on a sheet of ice should not count as fragility fractures.

loplady, the dxa/TBS/FRAX only uses gleaned from the x-ray. The frax calculator score includes information from your personal history, which could be more or less accurate than the dxa calculated score.

I was thinking that but they did ask me the same questions before my DEXA scan so I thought they were included in the results. Big difference in the results which can influence a decision for meds vs. the natural approach, which I have been taking.
