Forteo (or generic) for more than two years after a several year break
Had Forteo for 24 months seven years ago with decent improvement. Then Reclast after that. Nothing else in between. My numbers again dropped now and had a traumatic fracture. My endo suggests anabolic again. Evenity makes me a little nervous. My endo is fine with my taking another round of Forteo now. Just wondering if anyone else did a second two year round of Forteo. (Also considering Tymlos) I know the black box warning is now removed as is the two year limit.

njx58, broken13 has the best answer. The success depends on both your doctor and your insurance.
I suspect you are right that language in the policies is outdated. But more and more frequently we have non medical personnel working the denial detail. A persistent doctor and an office that knows the best approach make a positive difference in our care.
Forteo was less expensive buying the generic using GoodRx than through insurance. I travel frequently and as prefer taking Forteo I have found it affordably available in several countries.
I have prioritized the drug, though and would give up a lot before giving up this medication.
I don't know the source of your bone loss, but if it would help your bones, I hope you prevail

I don't see how you can take Evenity for 21,000$s a year.
I have bone markers every three months, at least. Could be excessive.
If I were mostly concerned about density, I might have quit Forteo. But I think I have a lot of fissured bone that needs to be replaced. I'm thinking that my osteoblasts are busy rebuilding lost cartilage structure. The cartilage has to be there to for the calcium to attach to it.
I hope you join me on Forteo.
Has anyone been on brand name Forteo and later the generic form Teriparatide? Was on Forteo a few years ago and now endo recommending another round of Teriparatide/Forteo (or Evenity), but insurance only covers generic form of Forteo. Would prefer brand name but am told there isn't any difference. Anyone have experience with generic Forteo?
@hipsalve I did Forteo for 2 years in 2016 and on generic now. Hard to say if Forteo would have given me better results, as apparently with age, we have different response? Otherwise, no real difference that I noticed. Just happy to get an anabolic bone builder that was cover by my insurance.
@hipsalve I started out on the generic for 3 months which was what my insurance at the time covered, then new insurance in 2025 covered Forteo but not teriparatide so I did Forteo, then this year back to the generic, again for insurance reasons. Physically I couldn't tell any difference. I have no idea if it will have any bearing on DEXA results but in general I don't think generic v brand name makes a difference, whether an osteoporosis drug or any other.
