Forteo (or generic) for more than two years after a several year break
Had Forteo for 24 months seven years ago with decent improvement. Then Reclast after that. Nothing else in between. My numbers again dropped now and had a traumatic fracture. My endo suggests anabolic again. Evenity makes me a little nervous. My endo is fine with my taking another round of Forteo now. Just wondering if anyone else did a second two year round of Forteo. (Also considering Tymlos) I know the black box warning is now removed as is the two year limit.

I did 24 months of Forteo in 2016, followed by one shot of Prolia and then Raloxifene. Just about finished 18 months of teriparatide now.
Hi, Thanks for your response. Will you be doing only 18 months for this second round? If so, is that because your doc checked bone markers? My endo doesn’t do bone markers though she’s head of a Bone Clinic at a large University setting. Wondering what your gains were like for first round Forteo. Mine were decent but not enormous. Also any problems or differences with the generic? Thanks for your response. Very helpful to hear from someone else doing similar plan!
@hipsalve Doesn't the bone markers tell you if the drugs are working?

1 ReactionI had these symtom 3 dsy after taking Tymloz : A dry, internal heat in my head, face, neck, back, and belly that feels like it comes from inside my body, not the room. Cold hands and feet during these episodes and after
- Nighttime heat episodes that wake me and sometimes cause heart palpitations unless I cool down with a fan or remove blankets.
7 days after stopping taking it, the internal dry heat has become slightly less intense, but it still occurs at night and continues to disrupt my sleep.
Does anyone have these symptoms with Tymloz . Thanks

1 ReactionInteresting…I did Forteo for 16 months or so when it first came out. I almost wish they had suggested it instead of Prolia…

1 Reaction@hipsalve Unfortunately I am a poor study, as before I went on forteo I had 13 compression fractures in my spine, so they could no longer take readings from it. However gains were shown in my Femoral Neck and Hip scores, which was exciting because the majority of gains from Forteo go to the spine, so we can assume it was an even better improvement there for me also. I have not fractured in the time since then, so win win.
Femoral Neck T-score:
-3.5 to -3.2
Left Hip T-score:
-3.0 to -2.8

2 Reactionshipsalve, I'll be starting my fourth consecutive year of Forteo. I really like the drug. While my bone markers look really good, the true test will be in the March dexa. I'd recommend a second round of Forteo. Tymlos may be more effective especially in the hip (if your name indicates need). Either is an excellent choice.

1 Reaction@gently Thanks for your reply. I’m assuming you improved on your third consecutive year of Forteo? How often are you checking bone markers? Good luck on your March Dexa.

1 Reaction@gently I'm curious how you got your insurance to cover this. My experience with the authorization forms is that they always ask "have you been taking an anabolic for two years already", and a "yes" answer disqualifies you. The insurers, as usual, are behind the times and/or use any excuse to not cover something. It's great that you can stay on it!

1 Reaction@njx58 Special Authority request by Endocrinologist can often help with insurance approval for additional treatment.
