Forteo first - Then Evenity ?

Posted by bellagila @bellagila, May 21, 2023

I really appreciate this wonderful group! I have severe osteoporosis and would appreciate your thoughts on taking Forteo first, then Evenity or vice verse. I have read posts where people on Forteo have had no gains or only gains in the spine but not in the hips or femur. Kindly comment. Thanks so much!

Unlike Forteo, Tymlos can be started at a lower dose. I had great results starting low and moving up to 7 clicks out of 8 with Tymlos. I still cannot tolerate a ful dose!

What timeline did you use for increasing your doses?
My doc started me at full dose, and 3 weeks in, I am a mess of side effects.

I think the timeline is very individual. I moved up from two clicks to 6 in maybe 6 weeks. Can't remember. Then pushed to 7 and stayed at 7 clicks. Some days I did 6 if I had something important to do. You are not going to be totally without side effects but it can be tolerable for many of us with this ramping up. I still cannot do full dose but had excellent results after 18 months.

In my research there does seem to be certain meds that are better for the spine issues than hip and vice versa. Though I haven't read this I think it may have to do with one is better at targeting the trabecular area versus cortical bone and vice versa.

Yes I think you are correct. Tymlos and forteo help more with the spine. Some have improvements with hip but some will gain in spine and loose in the hips. Evenity does a great job overall. This was told to me by Dr. McCormick.
