Flexibility and Range of Motion after TKR

Posted by 4russcoll @4russcoll, May 16, 2021

75 y/o and a month after TKR healing well. Extension good but flexibility only 85 degrees. Looking for suggestions for exercises to improve. Dr set goal of 110 degrees in 3 weeks

@glidefloss : I’m sure you can figure out what I meant how to do that. I got tired of jump ropes forcing the bend. And - same thing here - fixated on degrees. 3+ years out from TKR. doing well. Would prefer not to do the other knee. Natural is still best. Nothing looming. Old-ish, but active-ish. That’s why I did the first TKR. Let me know if and when you can do child’s pose? I’m cheating - putting a slim pillow between butt and heels, since I use this position to relax in-between planks.

I am curious to know if any of the 'patients' are dealing with Type 1 diabetes along with a TKR and how it has affected their recovery.

That’s pretty soon after surgery. You may still have swelling. Try ice packs, just for 15 minutes I was told. Do you have a PT? If so he/she should be advising on exercise. You can try just sliding your knee up while in bed as far as comfortable and hold for a few seconds. If it hurts don’t do it. I overdid stuff at first and caused myself setbacks. Then I learned to take it much easier. I didn’t do the exercises a lot but you are supposed to do them. Take it easy with them and watch out for PT’s who push too hard. At 4 1/2 months I’m at 123 or so and 130. Yeah, I was dumb and had both done at once. 70 yrs. Yours will improve with time.
