Five year old granddaughter has 3 lumps in neck..,..

About a week and one-half ago, my granddaughter was taken to the dentist. The dentist noticed a lump on the right side of her neck and instructed her dad to take her to the E.R. straight from there. The E.R. did work-ups etc and nothing came back alarming. So the next day her dad to her to the pediatrician who proceeded to refer her to an EENT on an urgent basis. At this point there was only one lump. She was referred to Children's Hospital. Children's hospital cannot get her in to be seen until mid-October. Now, she has 3 lumps on the right side of her neck and the first lump is as big as a golf ball. There is no pain in the lumps and she does not seem to feel ill and says she feels fine. My question is should there be a cause for concern. I really don't want to wait that long. Any thoughts here is much appreciated. Thank you,

How very stressful to worry about your precious granddaughter with a potential health problem.
I don't think I would be in a panic yet if she has been seen at a hospital with workup done, and by her pediatrician. Did her pediatrician see the results from the ER? Does the pediatrician know when her EENT appointment is and did it concern him/her? Perhaps they can make a referral to a different EENT group for a sooner appointment. Another ER visit is a last resort, but at Childrens, this time, if the lumps continue to increase in number or size. I know specialists can only see a limited number of patients each day, but an urgent referral a month and a half out seems wrong. Perhaps the scheduling staff did not note the urgency. The pediatrician would be my next call.

Her physician needs a Physician -to Physician telephonic discussion re the urgency of the case. I would pus every single day and even go to the Hospital Administration if need be. Also, do you have an attorney? I can promise you the ones that are making the decisions on the appt are strictly clerical. You need a big Push from your Physician!!!!!!!
