While research suggests a connection between creatine and prostate cancer, it's not a direct cause-and-effect relationship. Higher serum creatinine levels, which can be influenced by creatine metabolism, have been associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer. Additionally, studies indicate that creatine availability can impact prostate tumor growth and progression.
A protein powder without creatine may be a better choice. You need to really ask a doctor about the specifics on this.
Thank you so much..... that's what I was seeing also....but your suggestion
for a protein powder with no creatine is an excellent idea.
Just trying to keep it real 🙂
FYI- I just love those Walmart protein bars in the blue box- 20 grams of it. Lol
This is very timely for me as I am right now three months post RT and two weeks after finishing 6 months of Orgovyx and I have been considering taking creatine myself. This post caused me to see what Grok says and here it is:
"There’s no definitive evidence specifically addressing creatine supplementation in individuals with a history of prostate cancer post-radiation treatment. The limited research on creatine and prostate cancer primarily focuses on general populations or pre-diagnosis scenarios, not post-treatment cases. Here’s what’s relevant:
"Creatine is generally considered safe for healthy individuals, with studies showing no significant adverse effects on kidney or liver function at recommended doses (3-5g daily). However, for someone with a history of prostate cancer, several considerations arise:
"Lack of Specific Studies: No clinical trials have directly examined creatine’s impact on prostate cancer recurrence or progression after radiation therapy. The 2015 case-control study I mentioned earlier noted higher serum creatine levels in prostate cancer patients, but this wasn’t tied to supplementation and didn’t address post-treatment outcomes. Without targeted data, it’s unclear if creatine could influence cancer cell behavior post-radiation.
"Potential Concerns: Radiation therapy aims to eliminate cancer cells, but microscopic residual disease or recurrence risk remains. Some in vitro studies suggest creatine might enhance energy metabolism in cells, which could theoretically support cancer cell survival in certain contexts, but this is speculative and not proven in humans, especially post-treatment. Conversely, creatine’s role in muscle recovery could benefit patients experiencing fatigue or muscle loss from cancer treatment.
"Other Factors: Post-radiation, prostate cancer patients are often monitored for PSA levels and recurrence. Creatine’s impact on PSA or cancer recurrence hasn’t been studied. Additionally, creatine is metabolized by the kidneys, and while it’s safe for most, those with compromised kidney function (a potential concern post-radiation or in older patients) should be cautious.
"Recommendation: Given the lack of clear evidence, caution is warranted. Consult your oncologist or urologist before starting creatine, especially since your medical history (post-radiation prostate cancer) may involve unique risks. They can assess your kidney function, PSA levels, and overall health to provide tailored advice. If you’re using creatine for muscle recovery or energy, discuss alternative strategies to ensure they align with your cancer care plan."
I have an appointment with my RO and MO in two weeks, will ask what they think.
Thank you very much that makes a whole lot of sense please comment when you
get back from your doctor's to see what they say about it I'll be
fascinated to know which way to go thank you and good luck
