Find a NET Friend
I just wanted to share that one of the most helpful aspects of my cancer journey has been the two friends that I have found through acquaintances who also have NET cancer. My family and friends have been very supportive, but they really don’t relate to the day to day aspects of this cancer. I blame myself as I do everything I can to live my life as normal as possible. I think most of us attempt the same. The only impact my family sees is when I say “pull over, I need to use the restroom NOW!” or “I need a 2 hour nap”. Although my NET friend’s symptoms, prognosis and treatment plans are significantly different, it has really been nice to have them to share experiences. Both have been extremely encouraging and helpful in providing suggestions for dealing with side effects, setting expectations of treatments they previously tried, and sharing knowledge about future treatment options. Most of all it really helps to have someone in your camp whose is fighting the same battle and at the same time cheering you on through the challenges and difficult decisions we face living with cancer. I know there are support groups, and blogs like this one which are also very helpful. However, having a friend or two is just a little more personal. I am so thankful to have them as my friends. We only talk or chat monthly, but I find each conversation uplifting as now we are fighting this cancer as a team!

1 ReactionHi @esplandmt2
I had a PNET and underwent a modified Whipple and found a friend on FB Whipple site as well! While she had pre-cancerous cysts on her pancreas, we had a similar surgery and a long recovery. We became friends and we still message each other monthly as well. Also, being a part of the Mayo Connect, as well as their monthly zooms really were great to connect with others and ask questions . FB also has many options for workshops, live FB events with Dr Eric Liu and Neuroendocrine Cancer Foundation FB page has Luncheon with the experts during most of the year, every Thursday at 12:00 EST. You can ask questions live! All these are so helpful to address your questions to a professional in the field. Thank you for posting about one of the most important parts of this journey is the power of connection!
