Fatigue while on Abiraterone + Prednisone + Lupron Depot

Posted by ellen45 @ellen45, 2 days ago

My husband has been on abiraterone, prednisone (both Dailey and Lupron Depot (every 3 months) or 1.5 years. He takes a nap in the morning about an hour after he gets up; a nap in mid afternoon and falls asleep watching the news right befor dinner.

Is this normal?

I can’t say with certainty because I have not started my treatment yet, my oncologist said it’s very important for me to exercise, specially with weights stay active and eat a healthy diet during ADT. Time will tell

It could be. I napped a lot during my first 9 months or so on ADT + Apalutamide, but my spinal injury and rehab might also have contributed.

In my case, my energy level has improved after a few years on hormone therapy, but not to where it was before.

This is a problem some people have if they’ve only taking 5 mg of prednisone. 10 mg of prednisone is one of the standard dosages. Some people get a lot of fatigue if they don’t have that much prednisone.

I found out about this because of other events, but a couple of months ago a doctor was at one of the conferences and was talking about his problem with fatigue while on Abbie. He said he increased his prednisone from 5 mg to 7.5 and it helped a lot. Unfortunately, for him, it also brought on pre-diabetes so he had to drop down.

I’m working with a guy who had such bad fatigue that he would wake up in the morning and then have to go back to sleep for three hours. I told him about the prednisone, He asked his doctor and his doctor allowed him to go up to 10 mg. It’s not a complete solution for him, but it made a major difference.

Very good luck to you with your treatment. My husband has a very good diet, but does not exercise mainly because he is 80 and very, very weak and dizzy often. He has very high blood pressure and lots of swelling in his legs. He just can’t tolerate any activity at all. Thank you for your response.

Ellen, this was normal for me until I stopped the Arbiterone/ prednisone. The Lupron stays in the body a long time too- 8 months- so I still have fatigue mid day all the time- have to lie down.

Thank you so much. I have been so worried about the excessive attitude. How long did you take abiraterone + prednisone and Lupron? And how are your feeling now. I pray all is ok.

Fatigue is an issue for me I take Abiraterone Prednisone and Lupron
I work out 3 times a week it seems to help but I need to rest in the afternoon.
but after being on the above for a year my Doctor is stopping the Abiraterone and Prednisone - just Lupron very three months I would try increasing
the Prednisone . Hoping my PSA stay 0.10.

Thank you so much! My husband is too frail to work out and he is 80. The doctor told us e would stop the abiraterone and prednisone at 2 years (we are at 1.5 years). Let’s see what happens when we go for our next appointment. I will ask about prednisone.

I pray your psa holds steady.
