Famotidine helping cognition, brain fog and anxiety

Posted by denise @trnrmom1, Dec 1, 2024

i'm a 78 yr. old female, having contracted the original virus in 2020; lost taste and smell only, before vaccines were manufactured. i do have an existing compromised immune system. i've been a long hauler for nearly 4 years, which include brain fog/memory issues, anxiety as my primary symptoms, tho i can work out at the gym 6x/week. just recently i read that famotidine (pepcid) can help with these symptoms. less than a week ago, i started taking 20mg 2x/day and within 2-3 days i've noticed clarity in thinking, can find words that couldn't make it from my brain to my mouth, i'm not feeling that brain fog and my anxiety has lessened. i've done some addl. research and it does seem famotidine does help with these long haul symptoms.

Hi,
Is it a prescription drug?

That's interesting! I'm glad it is helping you. Just in case you are not aware, there is a link between long term famotidine use and dementia, so please be careful!

Speaking only for myself but MY research indicates Famotidine does not cause dementia… but for 4 yrs either my long COVID symptoms I’ve felt as if I already have dementia but still had the awareness of dementia/ like symptoms so I’m willing to take the chance of getting dementia but enjoying the mental clarity and finally having found words I wasn’t able to find and enjoying less anxiety for however long it lasts and in no way am I trying to convince anyone to use this but merely sharing MY EXPERIENCE ONLY.

That's PPIs. Not famotidine, which is an H2 Antihistamine. The article you linked to specifically said antihistamines are not linked to demensia.

There is a link to dementia with PPIs, not Famotidine, which is an antihistamine.

Thank you all for correcting my misunderstanding.
