faint clicks/snaps at the back and top head
19 year old — for a month ive been experiencing faint snaps while laying down, mainly from the left upper side on the back of my head. it started off with flicks against the sides of my tmj (which i originally had tmjd on the right side of my jaw) but then i started hearing it at the back of my head too! i usually hear it if i get up while laying down. it sounds a bit like a hair clip. another noise i hear is almost like a heavy thud or puzzle click if i angle my head a certain way on the pillow.. i also feel faint thuds on the base of my head when moving it or simply standing still—all mainly on the left side. im assuming the noise is stemming from my neck, i haven’t had any pain so far other than tingles and throat strain :(..
i’ve had a ct scan for the throat and brain and all is clear except for my wisdom teeth coming in, but i doubt that’s the issue since it’s on the right side... ive received no answers and i can’t find much about my symptoms online and im freaking out
im able to move my head around fine but it sounds so crackly and sometimes snaps. especially in the morning, i can also hear crackling from above the back of ears. the noises reduce when im up and moving but the thudding on the left side stays. my doctor referred me for PT next week but im a bit anxious since i have no idea whether or not that’ll make my situation worse and im unable to get an mri or other screenings :(..

Just wanted to say, I feel you. I also have crackling sounds on my lumbar. https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/crackling-sounds-post-tlif/
I am not sure if I would go to PT without knowing for sure what the cause(s) is/are. Can you ask your doc if X-Rays would show what could be there? Or push to get MRI?
Wishing you the best.

1 ReactionHave you thought about going to a chiropractor? I have been getting adjusted for 40 yrs, including head and neck. They can adjust your neck and shoulders gently but effectively.
