Eye problems and cervical compression
I have C3-4 severe cord compression and moderate at C6-7 with previous fusion and 4-5. I have daily headaches and eye lagging, focus issues and occasional blurred vision. I am in PT and my balance is unsteady. I am seeing a neuromuscular spine Dr on Wednesday to see what he thinks. I am wondering if anyone has had success with injections for something similar to this? Does it help or just delay the inevitable. My eye issues are disabling along with the headaches. Has anyone had a epidural cervical injection? RFA of neck nerves?

Hello @nancyjo1490 , I’m sorry to hear that. My problem is a little different, I had a misalignment in my spine, but I also had injections before my two operations, for me they didn’t go well, so I ended up doing two surgeries (1st one did not go well), inserting titanium implants between C3 and C6 (a C3–C5 lordotic plate, 2 cages, 6 screws, C5–C6 disc). Since then, and immediately following the operations carried out three weeks apart , my close-up vision has got worse, and never got back to normal . I do physiotherapy every other day and clinical Pilates, that helps, but I also get migraines and feel a lot of pressure at the back of my neck. I experience stiffness and pain in the back of my neck every day; some days are worse than others. It gets worse when I’m working at the computer – my neck starts to feel stiff – or when I’ve been sitting on the sofa for more than 30 or 40 minutes. I have to keep changing position. I work from home part-time and spend the day applying heat packs, which helps a lot. It also helps to lie down and get a good rest. If I only get a few hours’ sleep, my neck feels awful. A hot compress on my neck helps a lot. I also have recommention to do a epidural cervical block injection or a block directly on the neck nerves, but I have not decided. I understand and I feel for you! Good luck, hope you get better! Let us know how it goes! Big hug!

2 ReactionsThank you for this encouragement. I see you are suffering too. My vision is very disabling. Too much screen time is no good for me too. In your case, i think that injection would help you. You have already had the big surgery, now control the pain. Thanks for your note. Good luck to you!!
I have cervical spondylosis (Radiculopathy) from C5 to C7; diagnosed in 2017. Since then I have had 2 cervical injections. The first one increased my pain dramatically for the first few days, to the point that I felt like my whole back went out. I was out of commission during that period. Unfortunately, my doctor at the time still suggested I try it again, just to be sure that it wasn't an isolated incident. That was a few years later. The second time, I wasn't nearly caused as much pain, but it did very little to help my existing pain. I do believe it is prolonging the inevitable, and for me, it was definitely not worth it. However, different individuals respond differently to medication, and I have heard about an equal amount of horror stories vs. success stories. Praying it works better for you than it did for me.
@alwaystriving770 I appreciate your honest experience with me. I am leaning toward a permanent fix as i can not function with my visual problems from the compression. If a Dr could guarantee complete resolution of my eye problems i would do it. Thank you so much!!
