Extreme groin pain and Hip Labrum tear
I have been doctoring this problem for 3 years. Steroid injection then MRI indicated I have labrum tear and mild osteoarthritis. I am a 69 year old female. Injection gave me total relief for 3 days, then the pain came back with a vengeance. I was scheduled for a THR in May but Dr. canceled due to family emergency. Now with another Dr. who has ordered only a lidocaine injection into the hip joint to see if it truly is my hip causing me all this pain. Pain is also extreme in the back of my knee. Nothing eases my pain and I’ve tried everything. Doctor said my symptoms and movements are not typical of someone needing THR. Too old for a labrum repair. Sitting for long periods of time is especially difficult. 3 different doctors, 3 different answers.

Both groin pain and knee pain are typical of labrum tears. I suspect you need the replacement. You might find someone who specializes in labrum repair to be certain that you are too old. If the tissues are too damaged reschedule that replacement. I'm sorry you are in pain.

1 ReactionI didn't know you could be 'too old' for a labrum repair. I am also 69 yo with torn labrum. Had injections that relieved pain for about 2 wks. It's gotten to the point where it is difficult to walk without a cane. But I really don't want to go through a THR!
Hello, i had a torn labrum repair in 2019 from a work vehicle accident in 2018 , prior to that surgery i had several steroid injections and lots of PT. meds as well. Because it was work related the department of labor would not authorize the Labrum repair surgery. Later i found out it was because there was a "Communication Gap" between my doctor and the DOL claim rep. I had to use my own insurance to have the surgery done in late 2019 almost 1.5 years later. I had it done but it did nothing because it was way to long and my hip was shot at that point. My doctor put in a request for a" THR" left hip by the way. Well that was approved go figure, i had a new claim rep at the DOL one with brains this time, LOL. So in 2021 May that was done, at this point i am 58 years old. Since then and still now i have groin pain. the illiopsoas in my hip from all the surgeries had to be " released" or cut/lengthened to relieve the tension in the actual muscle/tendon. I did have it done ay Mayo 12/24. The doctor informed me that it may help a lot a little or not at all. At this point i can say it helped a little . I did have a lot of PT post surgery to strengthen the hip but it hasn't done a lot i had another MRI May 14th 2026 and a still have atrophy in that muscle and i found out i have hernias in my groin. More then likely its from strain from working out to much ugg. I see a general surgeon for this hernias actually this morning 06/08. My advice do not wait you are not getting any younger trust me it gets worse if you do.
Thanks for sharing, Frank
