Exterminators and Liver Transplants

Posted by naphta @naphta, 2 days ago

Does anyone know what kinds of chemicals are okay for exterminators to use in the home of a liver transplant patient? My sister had a transplant several years ago, but her house needs spraying. Anyone have any info on this? Thanks!

Hi, @naphta. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I'm glad that you are here where patients share experiences and support each other with similar health concerns.
I am a liver and kidney transplant recipient and I commend you and your sister for checking this out! My only experience has been with bug exterminators at my home for termites, but that chemical was been applied to the exterior/foundation of out home.
I believe that as an immunocompromised transplantrecipient, that the only way to know the answer to this question is going to be to ask your sister's transplant team. Her nurse should be able to let her know what, if any, precautions are necessary. We can never be too safe!
I hope all goes well for her.

Absolutely correct, Rosemary about contacting her team, but her transplant was a while back now and she is in Houston and her team is slow to respond, so I thought I would see if anyone up here had any experience with this.
