Extended Prednisone Use for TKA Swelling Relief

Posted by jsg12206 @jsg12206, 4 days ago

How long has anyone been on Prednisone or a similar steroid for swelling relief after TKA? A two week tapering couse worked well until the taper became minimal and then the swelling and pain returned. The nurse balkied at refilling the Rx, and elevation, ice, and compression are insufficient to reduce the problems. Kind thanks!

Not on a steroid but am on the NSAID Meloxicam for a year now, status post TKA. I was on it for a couple years for knee arthritis pain prior to surgery and was hoping I'd be off of everything by now. Course my pain and swelling is from Patellar Clunk Syndrome, for which I need surgery to correct, but I'm afraid of more surgery.

I didn't get Prednisone with either of my knee surgeries. I was taking Hydrocodone for pain and stiffness. That stopped working and now I am taking Meloxican and this is working good on swelling and stiffness.
