EPI meds expense

Posted by grannydee @grannydee, Dec 12, 2021

On Medicare, Medicare supplement and Cigna scrip insurance. My meds are NOT covered. I appealed and my appeal was denied. The “discount card” is not for Medicare patients. I cannot afford my medicine as it costs more than I even receive from SS. I don’t know what else to do. I was misdiagnosed for 30+ years and now that we have finally found a med that works I cannot afford it. I don’t know what else to do. Maintaining weight is not working, currently at 106. with osteoporosis and anemia due to the long term misdiagnosis. I am willing to try just about anything at this point.
I realize I’m not the only one but I live in a small town and just found this group. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. I’m embarrassed that I cannot afford my medicine and while I know that there are other people my age experiencing the same issues, I just never imagined that it would be me too.

The prescription enzyme I take is 368.00 a month copay. Without insurance it is over 2000.00 a month! I’m looking for an affordable over the counter pancreatic enzyme with comparable lipase dosage of 40,000 units. I would appreciate any suggestions, as the diarrhea caused by this condition is intolerable.

Have you tried an interventional doc for low cortisol. She directed me to an enzyme site. She believes in natural. May or May not work. But it’s worth a try. That’s unreal on the price.

i picked up Otho Molecular Digestzyme-V. It contains the same things as Creon and Zenpap.
Amalase, Protease, Lipase plus many other benefits, according to my compound pharmacist.
I have not started taking yet.

Yes I have. So I ordered DHEA as a spray. Got sick on it and some pill. Same issue. She had me try ashwagandha, it raised it,, and was it from that I don’t know. Used Goli brand. After I told her the recommendation she gave did not work, she just advised Ashwagandha. Round and round we go. But she did the saliva test which Mayo states is the best. Everyone else disagrees. Upset!!

Zenpep? Had that years ago. It’s to bulk up stools. You must have gastro problems. Had Creon too I think, years ago. Zenpep helps you digest and get nutrients out of food.

Diagnosed one week ago and SO many questions. Prescribed very expensive Zenpep. Can I eat as normal while taking these capsules? Need info on dosing, foods I can eat without dosing, etc. Doctor no help with this. He just says take one capsule before a snack and two before a meal.

That is my problem too! I was diagnosed 2 months ago. Prescribed CREON (very expensive). I take 1 w/snack, 2w/meals. I haven’t been told anything more. I am googling EPI and have joined this discussion in order to find out what I’m to do. Can any of you offer some suggestions?

Following. After googling (my only source of information) I think Creon and Zenpep are pretty much the same thing. The capsules are so expensive I find myself not eating when I’m hungry in order to save the capsules. Not sure if I need to take one or two with every single thing that goes in my mouth. Fruit? Liquids or juices? Starches?
