Excruciating pain

Posted by susancats42 @susancats42, Feb 13, 2023

Had gallbladder removed 2/2/2023 laparoscopically. Planned to return to work tomorrow but after eating (maybe that was the problem- VietNamese vermicelli was pork and shrimp and Thai tea I have been a mess. Very painful lower abdomen diahrea and small throw ups. 1 st time through this. Couldn’t find any information on what to eat what to avoid except ’fatty foods’ I got ice pack and have been sitting up all night. As most comfortable position. Called Nurse advice line. The suggested doc tomorrow. Have any of you experienced this kind of awful pain? Plan to go to work scrapped pending.

Without a gallbladder, your body has a hard time processing fats. It affects some people more than others. I'm one of the ones it affects, and it was years until I figured out what was wrong, and then confirmed it with a doctor. That pork you ate may have been the culprit.

Check the nutritional label on everything you want to eat, and make sure there's no or very low fat for now. After a few weeks or months, you could start introducing more to see how much you can tolerate.

Also read up on digestive enzymes and ox bile (yes really, the bile from oxen. ewww) or ask your doctor about them. They can help your body process fats. I take either NOW Super Enzymes or Healthy Origins Digestive Enzymes. The NOW enzymes have ox bile already in them.
