Evenity New

Posted by bevlevvancouverbc @bevlevvancouverbc, 3 days ago

I used the heading Evenity new because I’m not sure
where this discussion fits in.

Clinical Studies on osteoporosis drugs:
Evenity was approved in the U.S. and Canada around 2019.
CHMP in the U.K. would not approve of Evenity in April 2019
because of negative cardio events.
Amgen stated then it would apply for re-appraisal.
Amgen was under pressure at that time because another
of their meds was getting off patent.
And Amgen was worried that another osteoporosis med
was going on market and take market share away from them.
I think it was a PTH med.
In Oct of 2019, CHMP made a quick U turn and approved
the drug Evenity.

Clinical Trials on Evenity: several co-authors of study on Evenity
are mentioned: one or more in particular are
in private practice. Is this a conflict that should concern
us as we read the results. *look at bottom of study to see
participants.

I could link to studies: however I have so many publication/articles/etc
it would take me some time. Suggest if you are interested
to pursue any subject, do some browsing on web, lots there to find
from credible sources.

I now am doing some research on more info on the PTH meds.

I want to clarify:
I am NOT advocating or trying to influence any decision,
that anyone has on what to take or not take.
What is good for you is good for you. You have made the
best decisions for yourself under stressful conditions.
I am very motivated to get the best research, the most
up-to-date information on anything I put into my body.
I have severe osteoporosis and still have not come to a
decision on what med to take, or not take.
Drs. anyone I’ve seen, have said they have hardly ever
seen my numbers.
This is one year since my diagnosis.
The first several months since diagnosis
were confusion and fear. I am trying not to make a decision
based on fear.
I have read, and continue to share in the good news of
people in this Support Group. I say Hurray for good news
and improvement. You are pioneers in a very uncharted
journey.

Next: I know you are all aware of how balance is important.
Don’t fall. Do we have a separate discussion group for
best exercizes to prevent Falls, to strengthen spine muscles,
compound exercizes, farmer walk, bird dog, etc for osteoporosis.

regarding nutritional benefits for osteoporosis:
Is there a separate support group for Nutrients:
Has anyone taken, or is taking, these additional vitamins/minerals:
omega 3
magnesium
broccoli sprouts - Sulforabane
Dr Patrick has interesting views: take a look

Vitamin/minerals made by Metagenic, Thorn,
Has anyone bought from these supplier: There is also
Consumer Lab for helpful info. I have not checked
with them lately.
In addition to Vit D and Calcium..what are your views:
strontium citrate: to add to your diet - is it controversial?
Melatonin – some clinical studies ..take a look
very promising for bone health. Do you take any.
Am still trying to find right dietitian, have not so far.

Finally: the Marydone vibration, which got praises from
Dr Janet Rubin with Margaret Martin interview,
(btw Dr Janet Rubin is related to Dr Clinton Rubin)
Sara Meeks also endorsed it on a Bob and Brad interview.
It is so expensive. Has anybody
found a similar machine, same configurations, at lower cost.

I am happy to read, and share with others about meds
and beyond with nutrients and.. anything else
can be beneficial. thank-you

thank you for your comments. I am also trying to make a decision about what medication to take. I had one year of Prolia and then one year of Reclast, but the benefits did not last and the side effects were significant.
I have recurring rib fractures and am being told by my endocrinologist that I must take a medication. Please continue to share your findings. I really do not know what to take. I use the guideline the Risk vs. the Benefit.
Very confused

Have you had anything after reclast? Do you have a provider that has kept up with the latest thing about osteoporosis medication sequencing?
There is incredible wisdom on this site. It takes time and work do your own research. It is necessary in order to be your own best advocate.
Read through all of the posts here and that will be a great start. Good luck on your bone journey.

Absolutely! You bring up many points and I believe thinking of all possibilities is absolutely genius! Without getting in too deeply I wondered if there’s a method to follow folks like yourself, as I am new to this forum and find people like you to have similar goals and experiences to mine. I believe it would be a great way to share our experiences and research if we could follow a person, and not just the thread.??? I believe many things can contribute to this issue and there isn’t just one magical answer. After researching goats and other ruminating animals care, I have delved into how minerals, water, environment, etc all affect their health and wellbeing-much of which the vets took note of and some disagreed on, yet we had success with these animals that I would advocate for everyday yet! I think I can do so also with some of what you and others say, by sharing and researching as a team “sort if,”. Sharing is caring! Thank you

“Sort of”. Correction. Lol

I apologize if this is redundant but I’m not sure if I posted my comment correctly

@patwerthman Here is how you can follow a person/member on Mayo Clinic Connect. Move your cursor to the member's name preceded by the @ as in @patwerthman. Then click and you will be taken to the member's profile. On that page you will see all of the Discussions the member has started. On the left of the screen you can click on Comments and see the various comments the person has left. If you want to remember who this member is you can Bookmark the Profile page with your own browser such as Google Chrome or you can use the Bookmark function on Mayo Clinic Connect.

I often use this function to refresh my memory about a member or get to know more about a member who I wish to respond to.

Does this help answer your question?

@gently
Thanks for your input!
didn’t know that there could be a 3rd year on Forteo.
Forteo is now off patent, but the cost of generic Osnuvo
does not seem to be significantly lower in B.C. Canada.

@naturegirl15
Thanks for telling us how to follow a member’s
thread.
I wasn’t aware of how to do this.
I have read your bio and it’s been quite a journey!
Also, very happy to hear of your success with
Evenity, gains in hips and spine. And,
success with Reclast. Hurray!

@patwerthman
I’ve read your latest comments on " what to do".
It is exasperating. Don’t know if you’ve had fractures.
Don’t know what symptoms you have. Or
what you can or cannot do. Is there an urgency to
making a decision, today or tomorrow?
As a person facing similar delimma: I would say:
Can you get a second medical opinion?
If you're not happy with your Primary Doctor, is it difficult
to make a change. Have you been
referred to a specialist, rheumatologist or endocrinologist.
Make a list of questions, what is of concern to you
personally. Be proactive in getting the best
medical help you want and need.
Make no decision in a fog of fear and confusion.

@gravity3
I have not had Reclast. I have not had any
medications. This question was probably
intended for someone else.

@hip123
Sorry to hear about your rib fractures,
after Prolia and Reclast
----------
my new comments Jan 6th, 2024
Having hip123 tell about her rib fractures:

I am asking this question:
Dr Keith McCormick, in several interviews talks about
breaking his ribs, and the number of fractures within
a short space of time.
“I would barely do anything, and I would break a rib,”
I gather from some of his interviews, not sure which,
Irma Jennings, or others. There is also a podcast where
he mentions, that after treatment, he was at -3.3
dexa number. After treatment.
Many on our Support Group would find this
dexa number a Red Flag.
His treatment, I can be corrected, am
not sure, was Forteo followed by Reclast.
And he has not followed up with any other treatment,
or has he, if he has not why not. He is training, or actively
doing IronMan. Which is impressive.

If any of his present clients are reading this thread,
is it permissible to ask him that question.?
What is the reason he not followed up with
further medical osteoporosis treatment.
If he has, what is he doing. what medication is he taking.
And if he is not doing anymore meds, his goal
seems to be to keep himself in good shape, proper nutrition,
(he has a website and sells nutrients) and maintaining
dexa score.

He gives advice and has written
a book on this subject. And we greatly appreciate
his help.
I ask: are these questions too personal, crossing the
threshold of his privacy,
or are these valid questions, because he is
actively involved in discussions and interviews.

I would like to mention something about Balance.
There are several members on this Support
Group that have unfortunately fractured very easily
with day-to-day activities. The majority of fractures,
something like over 80% happen with fragility falls
(or trauma).

There are, as I mention, those who fracture without
falls.
I have a youngish dental hygienist who has broken her ankle
and areas of her ankles, twice, from playing soccer.
I also had a youngish (30-40) doctor who had stress
fractures in her foot.
I don’t know their medical history and if they have
very early onset osteopenia. Or something else.

to continue: Balance to prevent fractures.
I was interested in a recent video with Dr
Belinda Beck of LIFTMOR, who said standing on one
leg is not enough for balance. So, perhaps, once
we are able to have good balance standing with one leg,
and tandem? we should be
thinking of Dynamic Balance exercizes. Look on
web to see if that is something you wish to include
in your exercize program, when you see fit to do so.

I have found a physiotherapist who is competent
and knowledgeable. He says that PT sometimes
underprescribe with osteoporosis patients because
of focus on Safety First. So I am prescribed beginners
program. Not hard to do. What I really want to do
eventually is LIFTMOR type of exercizes to improve
density in hips and spine.
Slowly, progressively with a spotter.
With or without meds.
(Dr Belinda Beck mentioned in one of her presentations,
that some participants at her clinic started the
program along with their meds, and eventually
discontinued the meds.)
