Evenity cardiac and stroke side effects update

Posted by serious @serious, Mar 15, 2024

Does anyone have an update this year, 2024, on these side effects? Has there been new studies or new ways of detecting who might be adversely affected by these effects on using Evenity ahead of time?

@lee1447

This is my first time posting under this discussion, but I have been reading the posts daily. I now have to get serious about making a decision regarding Reclast. I am now going through all of this information collecting the pros and cons and then discussing my concerns with both the endocrinologist and my PCP who will be very forthcoming with me.

I read a few comments saying that “windyshores” is no longer
posting on this site. I have had AFIB since 2013. After a third ablation, I have been AFIB free for 2 1/2 years. Both of my doctors know that the fear on Reclast as it relates to AFIB is my top concern! But breaking a hip and becoming incapacitated is a major issue, too! Wow, risks versus benefits…….
Anyway, @timely, you posted that there is no longer a concern about Reclast and AFIB. I remember windyshores saying the original study discussing the interaction was debunked!! Does anyone know if she referenced that study and where I could find it? I have been looking.

Just a side thought, my husband has been on Reclast for years because of bone loss from a medication he is on. He had the pain and flu like symptoms after the first infusion, Thanks to this group, I got smart and asked that he had longer infusions. No side effects followed those. His last infusion was 20 minutes. He did not speak up and ask for a longer infusion. He had aches and pains for 5 days after that!! Lesson learned….

@windyshores posted that there is no longer a concern with Afib and Reclast.

I have not taken any bone infusions or meds as I was only offered Prolia by the NP in charge of the department. She said that I could not take anything else. (Most likely because of Afib.)
I refused.

I am having a DEXA test tomorrow. This is the 2 yr point since my last one. I already have osteoporosis.

I have taken Letrozole since March 2023.

May I ask your age range as I have Afib and have not had the ablation procedure.

At my age, I would not want 3 procedures and dealing with BC and breast lymphedema has been enough for me. I wonder if I am mistaken…
But I could not do that…..

I am in my seventies. I am sorry to hear about your health challenges. I had 3 catheter ablations for my AFIB. The first 2 failed because the electrophysiologist was not skilled enough to reach the area in my heart that had the AFIB. I found a very skilled doctor and, so far, the ablation was a success. I had a quick recovery and no complications from any of the ablations. Perhaps this is something you can consider “down the road”.

I wish I could find the study windyshores noted about AFIB and Reclast. My endocrinologist has still not provided the newest study for me.

I appreciate the comments about having Reclast infused over an hour to help with symptoms. Does anyone know if Medicare covers this hour infusion.
I am assuming a doctor would have to document the medical necessity for that length. Now I am wondering if my doctor would authorize that and deem it a medical necessity!!
