Evenity and Lower Back Pain

Posted by rjkesal123 @rjkesal123, Apr 1, 2024

Hello, I received an evenity injection on Wednesday, March 27th and have been having severe lower back pain since Saturday. Has anyone experienced this so soon after the injection? Thank you!

I have been on Evenity since August of 2023, so I’ll finish up my 23/24 doses in July. I have not experienced unusual back pain, but remember that many of us have had compression fractures that can cause residual pain issues.

@beanieone I can see your post is from two years ago. I just joined this forum to connect with other patients being treated with a Evenity. I just asked about severe lower back pain after an injection and saw your post. If you should see this, I’m wondering how things went for you with the lower back pain. I had my 10th shot two days ago and just after felt as though my lower back went out and I’ve had severe muscle spasms and pain in my lower back. I hope your situation improved and that your bone density also was improved.

Hi @artistel81

I'm sorry to hear about your lower back pain after Evenity injections. The only adverse reaction I had to Evenity was redness at the injection site (back of upper arms) and a bit of tenderness for a day or so, pretty much like having a flu shot. I did not take any prophylactic ibuprofen or acetaminophen prior to or after the injections. I did, however, learn and subsequently ask about the benefit of having the nurse remove the syringes from the fridge about 1/2 hour prior to my appointment; that helped with the initial "sting" from the shots.

I had my issues with a partial course of Tymlos where I, too, experienced all types of back pain like you're describing and there was no relief from the pain for me. Once I stopped taking Tymlos, the pains stopped within days. I had great gains from one of the aforementioned meds, but I can't really be sure which one as I took them in succession and had a DEXA after finishing Evenity.

I'm wishing you great gains - only two months to go! Perhaps you should mention the recent pains in your back to your doc to make sure all is good there. Sorry I could not be of more help to you :(.

Happy Sunday, all! Cheers!

@beanieone Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed reply..which is in fact very helpful! I do plan on sharing what happened after my recent injection, just to be sure all is OK. Perhaps some blood work will be in order. Be well, stay strong and keep moving! I’ll be 72 in the fall, am very active and want good bone health and overall good health in the years I have left! Health is Wealth! 😌💕
