Before I had my left breast nipple-sparing mastectomy (2 weeks ago), I was told I had DCIS, grade 3. However, my pathology report now shows that the cancer is invasive, and I will need another surgery to remove some lymph nodes and the nipple. After that surgery, I was told I will need 12 cycles of Taxol chemotherapy over 3 months and 1 year of Herceptin.
I would like to know if there are other treatment options available. Also, if the second surgery reveals unexpected results again, what additional treatments might be considered? Finally, should I begin chemotherapy before the second surgery, since I am still in the healing process from the first operation?
