enlarged uvula amputation
My uvula has enlarged and gets in the way of swallowing, blowing my nose and general breathing. This started immediately after a triple cervical fusion seven months ago. ENT says uvula can be clipped, but the pain is like a hot poker in the throat for several days post-op. Have any of you had this procedure? I'm weighing the pain vs. result to decide if it's worth the pain.

Hello @artvandalay and welcome to Connect. I have not had that procedure but I hope someone here chimes in with their experience. for you. I just wanted to share that those of us who have had surgery or radiation to this area have dealt with prolonged pain when eating and swallowing. A liquid diet for a while can help get your nutrition in. There are topical products which can numb the area and relieve pain. I used a lidocaine oral gel to numb the oral ulcers from Radiation so that I could swallow. I also had a mixture called Magic Mouthwash which when swished and spit out gave temporary relief. I might suggest a discussion with your ENT or nursing staff to see how they help to control pain. It has to be very hard to make a decision on an elective procedure with that kind of a warning. I hope others can help you here with more information.
