Prolia Side Effect: Edema

Posted by kjs1964 @kjs1964, Jan 25 7:56am

Hi,
I have been receiving Prolia injections for two years. This summer, I got edema. I went to my doctor and had many tests, which proved nothing wrong with my blood work and heart.

I had edema in my lower legs and feet. Now that the weather is cooler, it is better, but I have pain in 3 of my toes on each foot.

I walk daily and do not eat a lot of salt; I wonder if anyone else has had edema as a symptom of Prolia.

I just changed my doctor, so starting from the beginning. I did see on the internet that Prolia can cause edema. When I told her I thought this was a symptom from Prolia, she said never has she heard that in 30 years.

She told me to find evidence that this is true, so I am just putting it out there. We all know our bodies.

Thank you for reading, and any information would be appreciated.

I just did a search edema and prolia. I found 'peripheral edema: fluid buildup that causes swelling in your arms or legs'. MedicalNews Today. Don't know if that helps.

Hi,
Thank you for your fast response. I appreciate all the help I can get. It is a start, and I am sure it is from Prolia. I never had this problem in my life. I walk every day and do Qigong. It is like Tai Chi. Have a blessed day.

I am getting impatient with doctors who doubt our side effects, to be honest. Do they think we are lying or have a psychological problem? All they have to do is google side effects.

Thank you

How could you make this up, and why? I got so upset, and as I was leaving, she said to look up that information and bring it on the next visit.

I saw it on a website in bold letters about 2 weeks ago. It was the only side effect listed. Can I find it now?

Have a good day and a blessed weekend.

I have had 4 injections of Prolia; this summer, I had edema on my lower legs and feet. I feel this is a side effect of edema. Does anyone have any information to prove that?
I just started a new doctor, and when I told her about it, she said she never had any complaints regarding the side effects of Prolia. Then, as I was leaving, she said if you find anything, bring it to your next visit.
Thank you and have a good day.

I just got my 5th Prolia injection yesterday. Awoke this morning in tears. The 4th injection was not as bad as the 3rd so I thought that I might be adjusting to the medication. I was wrong. I’m in such pain this morning it’s surprising to me. My arms and wrists are weak and burning. My hips and lower back are burning. My legs are burning and feel so heavy to move while walking. My image in my thoughts are like I’ve been poisoned. Why do I keep doing this to myself……isn’t quality of life in old age important? How do I know if this is right or wrong. Each person is different yet the same. Why do I keep trying to be stronger when the human body is not ever designed to go on forever….

@kjane322 we do these meds to avoid the pain and disability of fracture 🙂 Do these symptoms last for you or are they for a few days? Can you transition (carefully, with blood tests) to a bisphosphonate and then take a break, if your scores are "good enough"? I hear you- we are between a rock and a hard place with few good options.

I had edema for about six months, and now I can tell my feet are swollen, but not like last summer.

The summer is coming and I am afraid that it come back. None of my shoes fit me right, and I am concerned if this drug is for me. Now, my three middle toes on each foot are hard to move and painful when I walk. I just had an MRI to see if there was nerve pain because I had so many motor vehicle accidents. The answer was no. Something is causing all of this. I am just trying to get information - regarding Prolia. Thank you
