Ear wax - what gives?! what gets rid of wax?

Posted by davecason @davecason, Apr 6, 2022

Hi,
I have had hearing aids and have now for 5 years but that's not my problem or question.

So ear wax - everyone has it an everyone finds it annoying.

I know you can trundle over to your family GP guy and they'll syringe it out and try to clean out your ear cannels for you and heck yea, it helps, but what is this big phobia about ears and ear wax in general?

I get that you’re not supposed to shove things like the ever popular Q-Tip and yea puncturing your ear drum is not recommended or wise.

So why has no company or anyone anywhere come up with a type of ear drop that can deal with ear wax? Or is there something I can buy (besides olive oil) that can effectively break up and help clean the cannels out?

It just seems odd that no medical company anyplace has made some kind of ear drop that you can put in in your ear that would effective break up the ear wax entirely and then you could just flush it out later?

Anyway if any one can suggest a product or knows of one that would be great!

Cheers’

Hi I was told one time to use Debrox before going in to the Dr. for cleaning my ears out. It does break up the wax, your ear will sometimes feel that it is completely blocked but then it is much easier for the Dr, to get it all out. It is in a green and yellow box, worked for me. Good Luck!!

Has your GP or ENT offered any suggestions?

Had bad case of ear wax causing near loss of hearing. My primary Dr . Used an irrigation flush to clear. This helped but not even over night. Dr. Has recommend I contact an ENT for check up. I did and ENT used what appeared to me to be a micro vacuum to vacuum the wax. I could feel an occasional prick when the vacuum tip touched flesh. He also said I had a virus and prescribed an eardrop medication. Follow up a couple of weeks late gave the diagnostic virus cleared. He revommrnd followup checks and no home treatment do not even irrigate to remove wax. Specifically that included no Debrox. About 6 months later I noted left hearing aid required weekly wax cleaning to be able to hear on that ear. I also developed ases of dizziness. Went back to ENT, he said virus gone and did one vacuum cleaning of ears. Most need on subject ear. He couldn't detect any virtocal, ad recovered I body therapist specialist for vertigo. I made appointment. He asorecomend a twice a year visit to have him clear any excess wax.
