Drugs or exercise and vitamins?
I recently went to a rheumatologist to get some questions answered regarding my osteoporosis. He said I had Senile osteoporosis and that he felt I definitely should take Alendronate Sodium once a week. I have also heard such horrific stories about osteo meds and am terrified to take them but also terrified not to of I need them. I am taking calcium and Vitamin D and exercise almost daily since the diagnosis. Is this enough to stop it from getting worse or should I start the meds. I want to hold off until my next scan but that isn’t until Oct. 24. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thank you.

I take Vital Proteins. I have found they help with my joint pain especially during the winter months.
There are some studies indicating that the hydroxyapatite form of calcium is beneficial to bone building however there may be some increased cardiovascular risk so it's something to be considered for those that have had heart disease or have a predisposition. In addition, MCHA is from cow bone for those that are vegetarian. If you do use it, be sure the source is from grass fed cows. The MRM product is a good one. Bone Up also contains MCHA from grass fed cattle but has tested short of other nutrients it has listed on the label as per Consumer Lab who ultimately listed it as "not approved".
Reading the label of Bone Maximizer, there are a lot of nutrients plus 1000 mg of calcium. It’s my understanding that the body can only absorb so much calcium at one time. I split the 1200 mg, taking it 3 times a day. I also just looked up Bone Maximizer on Consumer Health Digest. You may want to research this product on this site and others to learn more before making the decision to buy.
I would highly recommend you check out Dr Keith McCormick. He's an expert on osteoporosis and all of the osteo meds. He has several videos on YouTube and has more knowledge than any of the docs I have seen. I have severe osteoporosis but had horrible reaction to Prolia. I won't take anymore of these meds. Dr McCormick's videos helped me put together a plan B....hopefully it works. All the best!
I met with Dr. McCormick for the second time, last week. He does consultations and also has a new (almost 700 page) book out.
I will check into that. Thank you!
Thank you. I will check into it. All the best to you as well.
Did you look on YouTube? They said it was on there.
