Dosage Adjustments On Tymlos Pen

Posted by julieann9 @julieann9, Apr 16, 2023

I recently started using the Tymlos pen. I am on the beginning of
the second pen. I have been on the full dosage and the
side effects have been horrendous. I am 5 foot, 1 inch and
weigh 110 pounds. I asked my doc and the pharmacist at the
specialty pharmacy about starting at a lower dose. They both said
the pen only administers the full dose.
Now I am reading that people have adjusted the dose on the
Tymlos pen by using clicks. Can someone please explain to me
how to do this. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I am on my second pen of Tymlos and for me most of the side effects have now disappeared even though at first they were considerable. I still get some occasional bone pain in at night. But the fatigue and the headaches are gone. I get a touch of lightheadedness shortly after the injection and that does not last more than 15 minutes or so. I guess I am very fortunate when I read about other people suffering side effects. However, at 5 ‘5” and 108 pounds. I wonder if I should be taking the full eight clicks or if I’m overdosing. I also have stage zero chronic lymphocytic leukemia, which is a bone marrow cancer of the blood. While I do not currently require treatment for this bone marrow cancer, I am scared that treating my bone density deficiency might awaken the cancer. Nothing is easy for us.

@osteopatient2026 It has only been 2 months since I began using Tymlos so no results as yet. Side effects come and go. But the bone pain has stopped. No headaches. Lots of fatigue. The most recent side effect was gastric so I had to stop using the medication for several days. I resumed use 4 days ago and so far all good.

See my post about timing of calcium, milk 2 hours prior…also get hydrated with healthy fluids not just water …water flushes out your electrolytes…I learned that the hard way a few years back on a hot day. I was drinking water, I think about a gallon in 12 hours …got dehydrated…fatigued…almost died because of low sodium. It was washed out of my system along with other things.

Each click on the pen is 10 mcg. If you do 8 clicks it is the full dose of 8 mcg. My clinical Pharmacist showed me. And she works with an Endocrinologist.

What you don’t take and when you take (food, supplements too much calcium, all kinds of things) can be as important as what you do take…fatigue is a very common condition that can be due to many factors…just the stress of all these daily injections can cause fatigue from the anxiety it can cause with some people.
Bonelady has a lot of good tips.
