Does mirtazapine cause trouble in controlling body movements?

Posted by zac1 @zac1, May 6 2:01am

Mirtazapine is the only med I have tried that gives me some deep sleep -but not always. The only side effect I get is trouble in controlling body movements, virtually for the whole day. I get dizzy and tired even if I apply even little arm strength in house chores. I need to lie down for an hour to recuperate. This effect wanes out in the evening. Anyone with the same experience?
Thanks

I used Mirtazapine for three months and it was very difficult to continue with, the only good thing was that it gave me a well needed appetite but that was it. I am very sensitive to medication so I’m cautious but I noticed in a few days that my legs felt restless with cramps that was difficult to deal with. I didn’t get the sleep I needed and if I did, it would be brief along with nightmares. I tried to cope with the symptoms but I eventually stopped taking them. I realize that medications affect everyone differently so this was my experience with Mirtazapine.

I couldn't take mirtazapine because it made me extremely ravenous and tired. There are many side effects. You may want to explore other options if your main issue is needing to sleep. What other symptoms do you have that had your doctor prescribe mirtazapine for you?

I agree that it’s a difficult medication to adjust to yet there are others who think it’s good. I also had uncontrollable movement from this medication mostly in my lower legs, a lot of cramps and sometimes in the arms.

I have been taking 7.5 mg of Mirtazapine for about three months. Since beginning this medication, I have had severe restless legs and arms as well as occasional leg cramps. In recent weeks, I have felt my muscles are weakening, especially in my legs and trunk. The medication has worked well for my anxiety; however, I am concerned about these side effects.

It’s a dilemma for sure when the drug is working out for you but the side effects are a problem, the only good thing I got was a well needed appetite but the side effects outweighed the benefits, I think perhaps you should talk to the doctor about the side effects and see what they can do to help you.

It sounds like an adverse effect with the medication. You would want to speak to your psychiatrist or primary care provider and have them review your dosage and possibly draw labs for a level.
