Does flying negatively affect someone with sensory hearing loss

Had sensory hearing loss on right side about 9 months now, past most of the dizziness, not sure if I should fly or not?

This is always something to think about. I personally know 3 people who have suffered from sudden sensorineural hearing loss after flying. All said they were congested prior to the flight. The air pressure was obviously a factor. That in itself is a variable depending on the plane, weather, etc.

I was told by a hard of hearing friend, not an MD, to always take a decongestant prior to flying and have done that. Some people have problems with decongestants, so asking your PCP before doing that makes sense.

Learning to protect your hearing is so important.
