Does Chemo (paclitaxel) cause Thrombocytosis

Posted by bsarvani @bsarvani, Mar 5, 2021

Hi, this is for my mother. She was diagonized with Stage 3 Breast cancer in Jan 2021. Her initial blood report showed mild Thrombocytosis (426 platelet count). After 4 chemo sessions, the platelet counts have increased to 530 now. I am afraid why it is increasing so much. Is it due to cancer spreading into other organs, or is it secondary Thrombocytosis. Has anyone faced this kind of situation. Please guide me!! thanks..

My platelet went up after breast cancer surgery and again during chemo. It took months after treatment for them to be back in normal range. It is important to talk to your oncologist about any concern with blood tests. Also, changes in blood lab results need to be looked at in combination with other blood work. .

I wish your mom the best.

I am taking Hydroxurea 2 X 500 mg daily. My platelet count has varied considerably 731 to 990, and know not gone down. Not sure what lies ahead. Does anyone have the same condition?

I would love to help you find some folks who might be having this issue. That platelet count sounds scary to me. Are you taking this for sickle cell, or for cancer?
